We all love the feeling when you come home from a long day and just the instant feeling of being free from the day sets in. It's always important to give yourself some me time, even if that me time is sitting alone in your car just watching cars go by in silence. Here are some ways that you find those moments of me time without isolating yourself from your daily routines.
1. Take a bath (or a shower, whichever makes you happier).
You do a lot more than you think during the day. Going to class, going to work, laundry, taking care of your children, taking care of your friends, running errands, you get the idea. It can be taxing on your body, so take a moment to pause under some hot water, or soak with a bath bomb and some bubbles.
2. Have a cup of coffee/tea.
Or, have the whole pot like Stitch. Grab your favorite hot beverage and a take your time drinking it. You'll feel like a whole new person.
3. Hug your pets (or anyone's pet).
This is a sure fire way of putting you in a good mood (unless you don't like animals, and that's just wrong). Even if its taking 20 seconds of your day to stop on the street and pet someones dog, do it, your mind will thank you.
4. Sing to your favorite song.
Bonus points if you sing SoMo. If you're driving home form work, lounging in your room at home, or even in the shower (as mentioned above) hit those high notes and release your stress through music!
5. Hang out with your best friend(s)
Okay, so maybe you won't be completely alone, but it will still make you feel better to be with people who make you happy. Try setting up a time where you all can go get a drink, or lunch, or set up a full-blown spa if you can.
6. Enjoy a Drink
Or, in the words of my roommate "DRANNNK!" Of course, please drink responsibly and don't go so hard you wind up with a hangover, because that would undo everything we just talked about!
7. Watch your favorite movie.
Even if you only put it on while you fall into bed and pass out, at least it will be comforting to have in the background! Or if you're able to stay conscious through the whole thing, it should bring back some happy feelings and make your insides feel fuzzy.
8. Watch stupid YouTube videos.
It still makes me laugh, and I know you will too. Find something stupid and if it makes you laugh, go with it. Those few moments of laughter could be just what you need to reset your mood.
9. Take a nap.
The best way to set your mood straight is to restart your whole body! Set a timer for 30 minutes and you should wake up feeling more refreshed and ready to handle the world.
10. Read your favorite book/magazine/blog.
Don't you just love curling up on the couch/bed with your favorite reading material? Whether it's a book you've read 20 times and still love, or a magazine that is your guilty pleasure, set aside some time to mull over the pages and take a break from the real world.
Now, I'm off to try that whole napping trick, and hopefully I wake up feeling like superwoman.
