EDM is known as electronic dance music, but I like to think of it as expressive dance music. One of the main reasons I love this genre is because each individual has so many ways to express themselves. With other genres, you either need to be a musician, dancer, or singer to fully express yourself. What I’m trying to say it, if you lack musical talent, you can really only jam in your car. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but music is meant to be an art form of expression. You can do so much more to express yourself other than singing along.
1. Shuffling
Shuffling is one of the more popular ways for people to express themselves through EDM. It's the perfect dance style for the fast beats and filthy drops. Shuffling is sliding your foot around without lifting it off the floor. A few simple moves to learn are the running man and t-step. Once you learn those two, you can begin to look like you know what you're doing on the dance floor!
2. Gloving or Tutting
Both gloving and tutting are essentially dancing with your fingers. Gloving is using LED lights on the inside of black or white gloves with fluid motions or digit movements. Tutting originated from hip hop culture and involves moving fingers in a similar way to glovers, but without the lights.
Personally, I prefer gloving because I can see it through all hours of the day. At night, the lights accentuate each finger and make really interesting and pretty effects. These art forms of perfect for those who have two left feet, simply don't enjoy dancing, or unfortunately can't use their feet.
3. Hoops
Hoops are mesmerizing. A beautiful image is painted in front of you while someone dances their heart out. Hoops are great for anyone since it's the same hula hoop you used to use, but now it has LED lights!
Note: The better the graphics, the more expensive the hoop.
4. Orbits
Orbits are fun flow art toys, but can be painful if you smack your arm with it. The star shape is what really helps creates fun light patterns. These are great for tightly packed events since you still use the orbit without it needing to go more than a foot or so from your chest. Bonus: The orbit fits perfectly in your pocket, so it's also hassle free.
5. Poi
I love watching poi because you can see the dedication and hard work the person put into it. It's incredible to see the amount of control the person has over the poi.
Poi is painful, but incredibly rewarding once you learn it. I gave up after getting too many bruises. You need a lot of willpower and an understanding of how to keep the poi rotating its focal point (a.k.a your hands).
6. Wands
Wands are a moving optical illusion. I've never been honored with the chance to test out a wand, but I understand the basics. The wand dangles from something similar to fishing with (because its invisible) and moves around a focal point (a.k.a your hand).
7. Fiber-optic Whips
These fiber-optic whips are great if you're like me and enjoy waiving things around. You can't hurt anyone with this (unless you let go of the handle). The lights are gorgeous to look at and make fora beautiful fiber-optic tornado.
8. Juggling Balls
If you like juggling, then get ready to put your skills to the test and try these bad boys out at night! Even if you can't dance or use other flow art toys, you can surely impress with a fresh spin on a classic skill. Please check to see if these will get through security before taking them to an event.
9. Become a DJ

Maybe you're the next Skrillex or maybe you just like mixing beats. Either way, if you enjoy creating music, becoming a DJ is one, hopefully obvious, way to express yourself!
10. 1, 2, 3 - Everybody Jump!
If all else fails, you can never go wrong with joining the crowd for as long as you please and jumping when the beat drops. Even DJs enjoy jumping too!
All of the various forms of expression mentioned above obviously require a lot of time spent practicing if you want to be as good as those who show what they’ve got at festival, events, or on social media. That isn’t to say you can’t do it too! You just won’t look like a professional.
You know what? That’s okay, because neither do the rest of us who look just as goofy trying to show off our mediocre moves too!
