It feels like there is just not enough time in the day. There is so little time, and so much work to get done. We stress ourselves out by either trying to accomplish all of our tasks at once or avoiding all tasks hoping they'll just go away. We overthink the small things in life and worry about each and every detail. We overcomplicate life and all it has to offer. Here are 10 small ways to simplify your life:

  1. Don't procrastinate. Procrastinating causes all of our tasks to pile up until it's the night before an assignment due and we're pulling an all nighter, groggy and exhausted, rushing through just to get it done. The sooner you finish an assignment, the sooner it's off your mind and you no longer have to worry about it.
  2. Make a list of what you have to do. Order the list from most important to least important. Try to find a time or day to accomplish everything on the list.
  3. Cut out everything that isn't necessary. It is important to try to make a schedule that is as little overwhelming as possible.
  4. Schedule space in between each task that way you have time to accomplish all that you need to. Even if you do finish each task on time, you'll have some downtime to simply relax and take a break.
  5. Learn to say no. It is extremely important to not take on too many commitments. If you don't have time to do something, it's okay to say no.
  6. Focus on one task at a time. Multitasking may help you accomplish more at once, but it also means you are not fully focused on the tasks at hand. It also causes you to be more likely to start something, and not finish it. Put all of your thought into one task at a time, and don't move on until it's completed.
  7. Avoid distractions. When you are taking a break, take a break. When you are working, work. It is essential to take a break from social media. Don't miss out on the life you have in front of you because you're too busy scrolling through Facebook.
  8. Take your time. Don't ever rush yourself. It is okay to move a little slow sometimes.
  9. Declutter and stay organized. A clean environment can eliminate stress and also save time. When you know where everything is, you don't have to spend hours looking for it.
  10. Don't overthink. Not everything has a hidden meaning and some things are really as simple as they seem. Overthinking never takes you to a good place and only brings more unnecessary stress. Don't sweat the small things too much.

Simplifying your life may seem easier said than done, but even taking small steps could greatly impact your life and make such a busy day a bit more bearable.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
