10 Things Fast Food Workers Want You To Know

10 Things Fast Food Workers Want You To Know

Working at Raising Canes for the past two years has taught me many skills; how to multitask, how to clean up lemonade at a certain time limit before it becomes a sticky mess, and most importantly, how to deal with customers. I generally love serving the general public, but there are some things I wish I could tell them how to do differently. Beginning with:

10. Please read the menu.

Many people don’t know this, but there is this huge, bright board right behind the drive thru speaker and behind the counter inside. What’s even better is that it tells you all the food we sell! Who would have thought? Please don’t get mad at me when I tell you “sorry sir, we do not sell hamburgers, desserts, onion rings, or coffee” because if you read the menu, you would clearly see what we do and do not have.

9. Place your order fairly quickly in drive thru or come inside.

I understand if you don’t know what you want to eat, BUT we have a board right before you pull up to the speaker which tells you a summary of the four main items we have for you. That should be enough to give you an idea of what you want. If that still doesn’t help, then you should come inside. Our counter workers would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

8. Blaming me when you place your order wrong.

If you want your food to be made a specific way, you have to tell me so I can relay that to the kitchen. I don’t have the power to read minds so if you want an extra toast instead of coleslaw please tell me when you’re placing your order. Also, if you tell me to add extra fries without specifying whether your trading out another part of the meal then I’m going to assume that you wanted it extra.

7. If I give you a cup holder, please keep it.

I understand that you may have the perfect amount of people to hold each of the six drinks I just made, but if I give you a cup holder please don’t try and give it back to me. You had me make six drinks and I put it into a holder for you, it’s out of convenience for not only you but for me too.

6. Your child.

Cleaning up a few fries here and there isn’t going to kill me, I do that every five minutes. But if you bring a huge bag of Fruit Loops for your kid and they have them all sprawled around the floor, I will be pissed. Often, that was the same floor I just spent 30 minutes sweeping up for the fourth time that day and I do not appreciate having cereal all throughout the lobby. I should also mention to not put your child on the front counter. I don’t care whether it’s their asses or their feet, do you understand that food goes on that same counter? That’s just unsanitary.

5. Yes, things cost extra.

Lemonade cost extra and so do refills. Please do not get angry at me because you want to know why your price went up $0.33. If you refer to number 10, it will tell you everything you need to know.

4. Getting mad at me for simply following the rules of my job.

Yes, we have campaigns that allow you to win free food, but you aren’t allowed to use it until your next visit. I’m following the rules that my bosses gave me. I’m not getting in trouble just because you don’t want to wait a day or because you want a free refill on lemonade.

3. When you try to steal our food with the “strategy” you just came up with.

I know you like to assume I’m an idiot, but I’m not. I have seen every trick in the book, including the one you just tried; please stop your scamming and finish your food.

2. Have your money ready.

For the love of almighty, have your money ready. I have never been able to grasp this phenomenon. When you’re going through the drive thru, you know you’ll need your money at some point so why would you not already have it in your lap? Also, if it’s going to take you five minutes to find $0.47, IT’S NOT WORTH IT. You are killing my recorded times that are sent to headquarters.

1. Putting me down because I work somewhere “lower” than you.

People that do this are honestly the worst customers you get. I’m sorry the place I work at as I go through high school and college is not good enough for you to treat me like a decent human being. I’m not enough of a person for you to treat with respect, but I’m enough of a person to make and serve you food you enjoy.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
