With school starting soon, stress levels are definitely high. I know there are times that I just want to give up and not finish my work. When I get too stressed, I have a few methods I use to help myself relax. Here is a list of ways to help calm your nerves when you become more anxious than you would prefer.

1. Close your eyes and count to ten.

Although it may seem dumb, this easy trick can make you feel so much better. Also, it really doesn't take any time.

2. Drink green tea.

There have been many studies done that prove that green tea can relieve stress up to twenty percent. So, pour yourself a glass and drink it while doing homework or studying.

3. Go to sleep early.

Sleep allows you to put your thoughts aside and works to refresh your brain for the next day. You'll wake up fresh and more willing to work based on the amount of sleep you get.

4. Make a list of everything you need to do.

By making a list, you know exactly how much work you have left. This will ease your mind each time you check something off as done.

5. Take a walk.

Getting some fresh air will allow your mind to take a quick break. Also, you can get some exercise as you calm down.

6. Call a friend.

Your friends know exactly what you are going through. Talk to them for a few moments and you will definitely feel better.

7. Take a shower.

Taking a shower is both productive and calming. You will have time to assess what you need to do while getting clean. Plus, singing in the shower always makes me happier.

8. Listen to music.

Hearing someone serenade you can help calm your nerves. Also, singing and dancing along can make you happier and more relaxed.

9. Eat a snack.

Eating a snack will give you more energy, allowing you to get work done faster and more efficiently. Your stress levels will go down when you feel yourself getting more done. After all, stressed is desserts spelled backwards.

10. Reward yourself once you get something done.

The fact that you are stressing out shows that you care about the work you are doing. Once you finish something, take a walk or eat a snack to reward yourself for your hard work. School can definitely be stressful and sometimes you need to take a couple minutes to calm yourself down. Keep working hard and the results will show. Also, remember that your mental health is very important. Stay positive and if there's something that you can't get done, contact your teacher. Teachers are usually willing to help in any way they can, so don't be afraid to ask. Good luck and have a great year!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
