10 Ways to De-Stress During Finals Week

Finals week can be a very tough time for all students. We need to remember to take time to relax and not stress ourselves out too much.

10 Ways to De-Stress During Finals Week

Finals week is the worst time of the semester for every college student. It is the last haul we have to push through so we can relax for winter break. De-stressing during this time can seem absolutely impossible, but in order to not have a complete mental breakdown, we need to know how to control ourselves and not get too overwhelmed.

1. Plan what you will study for or what papers you will write on certain days

Time management is key when you have a lot going on in one week. Knowing what will be done on what days will make taking a test or submitting a paper that much less stressful.

2. Sleep

Sleep is key when studying for finals, or tests during the year in general. Sleep provides us with the energy to both study for tests and take tests. Sleep deprivation has caused people to have some memory loss, something no one wants when taking a final exam.

3. Work out

Doing a simple workout can instantly relieve stress and anxiety. When stressing out about a final you have the next day, go for a short walk or jog around campus to get your mind off studying for a while.

4. Take a hot shower

Hot showers allow us to relax our muscles and our minds as well. As soon as you get out of the shower and start studying again, you'll immediately feel more alert and be able to concentrate.

5. Call your mom

There's no better person in the whole world to talk to when you're stressed than your mom. She's most likely gone through stressful times as well and knows exactly what to do in any situation to make you feel better.

6. Laugh

Whether you watch a funny video online or share a laugh with some friends, laughing can instantly make you feel better and make the atmosphere a little more enjoyable during finals.

7. Listen to music

Music allows us to escape from reality for a while and think about better times before the stresses of finals and school dominated our lives.

8. Vent to someone

Any of your peers that you talk to during finals week are in the exact same boat as you are and know exactly how you are feeling. It is always a good idea to talk to someone and just talk out all your fears and anxiety.

9. Watch TV

Like music, television can take us away from reality for a little while. It is nice to get your mind off of schoolwork, so take a break and watch a television show or movie that you enjoy.

10. Just breathe

Finals are only a week long. You can do this.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
