Everyone is made differently and that's a beautiful thing. However being a truly tall girl is an occurrence that is becoming more rare. From sorority squatting in pictures to ducking under door frames, here are a few not-so-hidden truths of a tall girl.
1. Yes, I know I'm tall.
I can appreciate that it's crazy to see tall girls, but we are well aware of the height difference. Thank you for pointing it out, though.
2. "Are you a model? Do you play sports?"
This question is almost as common as "How's the weather up there?" Whether or not we are athletes or models is irrelevant in any sort of conversation unless you're wanting to offer us modeling or athletic contracts. Also, the weather is great. Thanks for asking.
3. Yes, finding properly fitting clothes is difficult.
Most of the time, especially with jeans, we've got to special order or pay extra to have our clothing be the right length. And don't even try to take us dress shopping. And 90 percent of the merchandise will be way too short.
4. Shower heads are potentially dangerous.
As weird as it seems, our heads are awfully close to the shower heads. This makes it difficult to shower comfortably, and nerve racking because we don't want to smack our heads against it.
5. Giving hugs was awkward at first, but we've just kind of accepted it.
Part of the tall girl lifestyle is having to hug people who are shorter than you. When the person is significantly shorter than you, the position of the hug becomes slightly awkward. After a while though, you just get used to it.
6. Trying to judge walking speeds can be a real challenge.
Some people want to walk faster, some people walk slower by nature. With all the leg that we've got going on, it's hard to tell which speed to walk at. Letting us set the pace is convenient for us, but might cause overworking or impatience for others.
7. Accidentally using people as arm rests does happen.
Whether we mean for it to happen or not, sometimes it just does. We all need somebody to lean on. Although we do apologize in advance.
8. The dreaded struggle of finding a long enough mattress.
Not all of us are lucky enough to have slept on a Queen or King size bed all their life. If you're like myself, you've been sleeping on a twin sized mattress your whole life. Unfortunately though, a point does come that makes you need to convert to a Twin Extra Long or a Full sized mattress.
9. Height is often used as a form of bonding between tall girls.
While we aren't all the same height, we are all tall. It's refreshing to meet and befriend other tall girls. Often times we share secrets about where to buy clothes and shoes.
10. Being a tall girl is a point of pride for many.
Sometimes it can be a nuisance to be so vertically blessed, but we wouldn't trade it for much. Personally, I love being tall. It keeps life interesting.
So with love from one tall girl to many others, keep doing your thing. Be proud of your height, it's a part of who you are.
