10 Tips To Get Through The Rest Of The Semester

The final weeks are the hardest. The work begins to pile up, spring break is still lingering in your mind, and the stress of finals is fast approaching. It seems like you will never make it to summer. Before you get to overwhelmed with the endless demands of last bit of the semester, here are some tips to help you survive:

1. Start a countdown.

Keep a countdown to the last day of school. Look at it every once in a while. It will remind you that summer is coming and school will finally be over.

2. Take a nap.

Whenever you’re not studying for a test or working on a paper, take a nap. Naps can fix anything. It’s my favorite way to deal with stress – sleep it off. Naps are a gift from God, don’t waste them.

3. Try not to procrastinate.

This is my biggest challenge, but procrastinating is the number one reason for my stress. Try your hardest to stay on top of your work instead of waiting until the last minute.

4. Keep yourself organized.

There is no worse feeling than lying in bed about to go to sleep then realizing you have a project due at midnight. Between all your classes it's sometimes hard to keep up with all your work. Write it down, keep a schedule, stay organized.

5. Manage your time.

Make a schedule for your day and your work. Set aside a time each day to for your work or studying. Doing a little each day is better than doing everything all at once. Save yourself the stress.

6. Keep at consistent sleep schedule.

This one is tough because we’re in college, but it is an important one. Make a sleep schedule and try your hardest to stick with it. A lack of sleep causes more stress.

7. Listen to a happy music.

A good playlist makes anything better. Make one, listen to it, stay positive.

8. Schedule a day for you.

Make a day each week to do absolutely nothing or at least no school work. Don’t even think about school. Lay on the couch all day and binge Netflix. If you can’t follow tip #6 then use this day to catch up on your sleep. Do what you want, but make it stress-free.

9. Stay motivated.

For me, this requires not looking at my grades. Motivate yourself to finish this semester strong. You have made it this far so don't quit now.

10. Take a break and treat yo’ self.

We all need to take a break from our work sometimes and come up for air. Take a breather and go outside, call your friends, eat some ice cream, do whatever you want that helps you relax for a moment. Working too hard all the time will end with a bad crash.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
