ā€‹1. The feeling of freedom when you first get to college.

Giphy

When you first go to college, it is so exciting and fun. You have never had this much freedom in your life, it's liberating. You are overjoyed with excitement of finally being able to make your own decisions.

ā€‹2. When you miss class just one time an dare beyond confused after that.

CW

Missing class during the semester is inevitable. Whether it be because you wanted to sleep in or you got sick, it happens. The first time I ever missed a class, I was beyond confused of what was going on when I came back. A bit of advice: GO TO CLASS.

3. When you start to feel less independent and feel the need to call your mom.

Giphy

There comes a time when you realize college is a little much and you still need your mom. For me, that happened within the first month. Now I call my mom probably too much.

4. When you receive your first not so hot grade on an assignment and feel like the world is ending.

Giphy

When I got a bad grade for the first time, I was upset. I let it ruin my day and laid in bed contemplating the value of college. I thought my GPA was ruined. Let me assure you, bad grades happen but the world is not ending! You will be fine.

5. When you have a professor you respect but don't really enjoy.

giphy

We all have a professor we do not see eye to eye with. However, since they are your professor and they have power over your grade, you just have to suck it up and fake smile your way through the class. Doesn't mean you're happy with them.

6. When everything is due at the exact same time..

CW

Professors have this cute thing where they give students everything AT THE SAME TIME. They like to stress us out. Don't worry though. If I can do it, you can do it.

ā€‹7. When you're so stressed that everyone and everything annoys you.

giphy

Using around midterms and finals, everyone reaches their breaking point. At this point, even the drop of a pen can annoy you, or even the sound of someone's voice.

8. When you feel like everything is going wrong, and you can never do all the work in time to save your grades.

giphy

Okay, college is stressful. I have cried in the last four months than the last four years of my life. Sometimes it feels hopeless and you feel lonely. It's hard. I promise though, you will get through it. Everything will be okay.

9. When you finally get through finals and have an overwhelming sense of relief.

giphy

YOU DID IT! The weight of the world is off your shoulders. You got through finals. Give yourself a pat on the back.

10. When you can finally celebrate and enjoy Christmas break!

giphy

Go drink some hot cocoa, watch a Christmas movie, wrap presents, hug your family, and just rest! You've earned it!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast ā€œBirthdayā€ on anyoneā€™s birthday. I knew all of the words to ā€œBack In The U.S.S.Rā€ by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. Iā€™m not someone to ā€œfangirlā€ but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
