http://giphy.com/search/hug-gif/2It's the middle of August, which can only mean one thing: it's time to move back in to college. Millions of college kids are leaving their childhood bed, still adorned with superhero or Disney princess sheets for that twin XL college dorm bed again. Here are some of the thoughts every college kid has when moving back onto campus.
1. "I can't wait to reunite with all my friends!"
Hometown friends are awesome, but after four months we can all agree we want to see our college homies again. The ones you watched Netflix with until 2 AM when you were supposed to be studying, or the ones you actually studied with until 2 AM. The ones you can always count on when you have an awkward situation to handle, and the ones you can vent to all night every night. College friends are the best friends.
2. "Oh my god.... I have to... do work again..."
Every summer we get into the same routine. Mostly just relaxing. Some of the more industrious of us might have a summer job or an internship. But even that can't prepare you for the mountain of work awaiting us just after syllabus week.
3. "I can finally eat Chinese take-out every night again!"
No longer will you be forced to eat your mother's meatloaf night after night. Or that cauliflower recipe you've been feeding to the dog since grade school. Now that you're a bonafide adult you can finally eat like one again. That can only mean one thing: Ramen and Chinese take-out every night. Until, of course, you remember you hate Ramen and Chinese take-out.
4. "Can I preserve home cooked meals for a full semester?"
For every dinner you tried to feed your dog there are at least five that were so mouth-wateringly good you just wish you could put that flavor in an airtight bag and save it forever. Sadly, fresh flavor is not preservable and freezer burn exists so...looks like Ramen it is.
5. "This is the year I get my life in order!"
The start of a new semester is like a new year and with it comes some new year resolutions. You say, "This is the year I'll actually read every assigned reading," or, "I'm finally going to make the Dean's List this year," or "I'm finding Mr. Right and saying goodbye to Mr. Wrong". Regardless of your resolution THIS year is the one when you get your shit together.
6. "Where did the summer go?!?!?!"
Summer is that precious warm, sunny, green season where there's not a care in the world. The sun is brighter and the fun is funner. What's not to love? It's normal to go through some summer withdrawal when moving back onto your college campus that will transform into a winter wonderland in a few short months.
7. "How much stuff can I fit in this car?"
Moving in can be stressful. Especially when you live far enough from school that you have to bring all your belongings in one trip. You've fit more things in your car than previously believed possible and yet, there's still more to go. Quitting is not an option. Yes, you can definitely fit that beanbag chair in the trunk and hell yeah, you need all your baseball equipment at school. Keep fighting the good fight brave soldier.
8. "Why are all these freshman here?"
When you come back to campus to a full class of new faces you start to ask some questions. Who are all these people? Why do they look so young? Did they schedule an open house for the first week of school? It isn't long before you realize the newest freshman class is on campus. Even though they're no different than you a few years ago, they are already "the worst".
9. "I'm getting old..."
Once you realize the new freshman class is here you start to come to terms with your aging body. "Oh my gosh I'm already twenty-(something)! I'm basically middle-aged already." Such thoughts may send you into an early midlife crisis (or a mid-college crisis). You realize your days in college are numbered and you vow to start making the most of your college days. You immediately make plans to go to the craziest, sleaziest, dirtiest frat party basement party there is that night. Then you realize you hate dirty, frat party basement parties and quickly text everyone that you can't go out because you have to catch up on House of Cards before the semester starts.
10. "I'm actually happy to be back"
At the end of the day you're the happiest person on earth to be back at college. Forget all the work, headaches, and caffeine-fueled sleepless nights ahead. This is where you're meant to be, and that is worth being happy about.
