As a new addition to the Odyssey scene, I would like to properly introduce myself by sharing a few odd facts about who I am. Consider this an exclusive, because most of my friends at the University of Louisville don’t know these things about me simply due to the fact that this isn’t the kind of information to come up in everyday conversation. So this is me! Enjoy!

1. Future Agriculture Educator

Okay, this fact is a bit obvious. I talk about the National FFA Organization every chance I get so it only makes sense that I would want to teach agriculture.

2. I attempt to be a waitress

I recently started working as a waitress at Bob Evans. Fortunately for myself and my customers, I have yet to drop food on anyone, but I won’t say that it can’t potentially happen.

3. I've totaled a car

Back in September of 2017 I was on my way home from the University of Louisville and I hydroplaned into a cable fence. The car honestly didn’t look that bad, but it would have cost way too much to restore it to drivable conditions.

4. I love to bicycle

Biking with my family is one of my favorite pastimes. Bonus fun fact: before I crashed my car, I got two bikes stolen within the same week from University of Louisville’s campus.

5. I have not one, but two giant dogs

One day, out of the blue, my older brother showed up at my house with two dogs and said, “Mom doesn’t know, but I got them for her.” Since that fateful day, I have been the happy dog mom of a Anatolian Shepherd and a Great Pyrenees.

6. American Sign Language student

Something about being able to talk without using words has always interested me. I learned small signs as I grew up, but it wasn’t until I took an American Sign Language class at the University of Louisville in the Spring 2018 semester that I earned enough to communicate on a basic level with members of the Deaf community.

7. Yellow belt in Judo

I started Judo two years ago because of a friend I met while taking an American Sign Language class. After going on and off since then, I finally took a belt test and recently became a yellow belt.

8. I work at a pumpkin patch

I’ve always been a pumpkin girl. I was born in October and my family has owned Mink and Walters’ Pumpkin Patch since 2002. Fall is my all-time favorite season, but corn mazes and jack-o-lanterns makes it even better!

9. I collect oil lamps

While I haven’t counted in a long time, I know I have over 60 oil lamps in my collection. Antique stores have become my weakness because I have grown to love hunting for a new, unique lamp to add to my collection.

10. I aspire to be a novelist

I started my first novel when I was in eighth grade when I was inspired by stories from the Sandy Hook school shooting. I’ll spare you the details because I could talk for days about my ideas for that book. As a an avid reader, I enjoy the escape that fiction allows. My goal is to create a world that I can share with others through my writing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
