10 Things You Miss About Being In Elementary School

When the days were better and the snacks were sweeter.

While being in college and having freedom and independence are wonderful, it's so easy to miss the old days where your biggest concerns were wondering when snack time was and hoping you got a gold sticker on your homework. So in honor of finals and spending every last second studying and trying to remember everything you've learned this past semester, let's reminisce on the good days of elementary school.

1. Snack time.

Because learning how to read and write is exhausting. Getting grapes and a carton of milk was always the best time of the day.

2. Recess

Because there was truly no better feeling than mastering the monkey bars and showing off in front of your friends. And there was nothing quite as magical as hearing those recess bells.

3. Nap time

Although napping might as well be an occupation for college students, those kindergarten naps where you didn't have to worry about getting behind on any work or obligations is something I miss most about being little.

4. Art Smart

Once a month, instead of normal rotations, you were surprised with art smart which was comparable to Christmas morning (okay maybe I'm exaggerating) but how can you complain about painting with marbles in the middle of the day?

5. Holidays

The best school days were the ones right around holidays. Class parties, exchanging gifts and making crafts to take home to mom and dad were always days to look forward to and are the days I miss the most.

6. Stickers

Because what could possibly make you feel more special than receiving a sticker after being well behaved in class or doing extraordinary on a project or assignment. When you were really well behaved and your teacher gave you the sticker of your choice, that was the icing on the cake.

7. Show and Tell

Show and tell was the best because we had the chance to show everyone our most prized and (peculiar) possessions. Who doesn't love a great stuffed animal or pet frog?

8. Field Trips

You mean we get to leave school AND still get snack time? Count me in! Trips to the planetarium and museum were always a treat.

9. Book Fairs

Seeing those silver carts roll into the library was a feeling like no other. Asking mom for $10 to spend at the book fair on the other hand, not as much fun.

10. The 100th Day of School

Dressing up like an elderly person, spending all day making arts and crafts, and counting "100" out of just about anything you could find was the way to an elementary school kid's heart. Easily one of the best days of the entire school year.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
