16 Signs You Went To Private School

Private school has its ups and downs. You're getting a great education, but at the same time, you're being judged as the private school snob. Regardless, I'm proud to have had the opportunity to go to private school. Here are some tell-tale signs that you went to private school:

1. You dreaded wearing the uniform.

As much as you hated wearing that itchy plaid skirt and crisp white button down (with a blazer of course), picking out all your own clothes to wear in college can be stressful. It was so much easier back in high school.

2. The grading scale was totally different.

An A was a 92-100, a B was an 83-91, and so on. I sure like the college grading scale much better...

3. You knew your teachers and your teachers knew you.

You constantly had one on one interaction with your teachers which made it very hard to just fly under the radar. (There was no skipping class and getting away with it).

4. That being said, everyone knew everything.

There was no anonymity in private school. With a school that small and that close, you knew everything about everyone. From the seniors to the freshman (or the 5th grade) you knew what car their parents drove, where they lived, and how many siblings they had.

5. You had to play sports to graduate.

Not only did you need a minimum of academic credits to graduate, athletics were also emphasized. This was hard if you were as un-athletic as I was in high school.

6. School spirit was huge at your school.

Whether it was hockey or football, the whole community rallied around your team. High school rivalries were the real deal and winning the OVAC (or whatever region) title was a huge success that your whole school took pride in.

7. "OMG was your school like Hogwarts?"

I wish it was! But no, I went to a normal high school like every other teenager.

8. And it wasn't like Gossip Girl either.

No, I'm not kidding.

9. You couldn't dye your hair any crazy colors.

So forget about the dip-dyed trends when you were 15 or the feathers you could put in your hair.

10. All the boys had to be clean shaven and their hair could not touch their ears.

Man buns were not tolerated in private schools.

11. You lived for dress down days.

Any day you didn't have to put on your blazer was a gift from God himself.

12. Chewing gum was basically a sin.

You might think it's stupid, but we got in trouble for it.

13. And God forbid you get caught with your cell phone out.

Your teacher would take it, and if you were lucky, you'd get it back at the end of the day.

14. If your private school was also a boarding school, most of your friends were probably from different states and countries.

"Melting pot" is a good term for it.

15. Work details were the equivalent to detention.

Work details varied from picking gum off of desks to raking leaves for two hours.

16. Your school was your family.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss high school just a little bit. I spent almost all of my childhood with the same people I went to high school with. We were basically one big family and I miss that every day. (L14 for life!)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
