10 Thing You Miss About High School, As Told By High School Musical

It is rare that I begin a conversation with, "You know what I miss about high school?" Mostly because there are very few things I miss. However, sometimes things just hit me and I think, "Wow, I wish I was back in high school so I wouldn't have to deal with this." This is a list of some of the things I wish I could have every once in a while.

1. Always having a group of friends to eat lunch with.

Since everyone is on a different schedule, it's not often that you get to sit down with all of your friends and have lunch together. At least in high school you knew who was going to be in your lunch period and sit with them every time at the same table to enjoy lunch.

2. School sponsored events.

Pep rallies, Mr. (mascot) competitions, and school dances are just some of the things that you come to miss when you have to depend on yourself for weekend entertainment and night life. Not to mention all the great memories you got to make at those events.

3. Knowing all (or at least most) of your classmates.

It was so calming and comforting to walk down the hall and see a hundred familiar faces and be able to say hi to at least half of them. In college, you just squint across the courtyard at the kid that may or may not have been in your seminar class that one time.

4. Having class with your best friends for 10+ years.

I was lucky enough to go through middle school through high school with some of my best friends. So we were together for a very long time. And even now in my second year of college I miss seeing them everyday.

5. Only walking a few feet to get to your next class.

I especially miss this during the winter. Having classes just down the hall or even in the same room was a luxury that I didn't even know I had.

6. Having the same schedule every day.

Nothing says anxiety like running to your Tuesday classes only to get there and find out it's Monday.

7. Having a semi-regular routine.

In high school I was a well-oiled machine. Wake up. School. Work. Homework. Bed. Repeat. Now that I have free time mixed in with school and work just happens whenever, I have an ever-changing schedule that I have to keep track of day-to-day.

8. Being caught up on all the school gossip.

Now that my school is so big, there is no way to know everything (or really even anything) and everyone anymore. It was always exhilarating catching up on school gossip when you walked into homeroom.

9. Uniforms (for those of us that went to private schools).

I cannot stress enough how much I miss being able to throw on my skirt, polo, knee socks, and shoes and roll out of the house. Now everyday when I get up I have to think of new and creative ways to be cute, which is not as fun as it sounds.

10. Not worrying about your financial burdens (as much).

Let's be honest: in high school you spent whatever was in your pocket when you were with friends. Now that you're painfully aware of the cost of school, books, clothes, food, etc. it's a lot harder to spend the money you had worked so hard for over the summer.

All this being said, you couldn't pay me to repeat high school. Sure I miss these things, but not enough to go through everything else again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
