10 Things I Want My Mom To Know Before I Move Out

Things won't be the same as they were when you were only a few rooms away.

1. I will miss your food

Your food is my favorite, even though we tease you that you don't cook that much. I already know I will crave your chocolate chip pancakes, cookies, chili, chicken noodle soup, and sausage balls. Let's admit it - you don't have a lot of time to cook, but I love when you do. It's going to be hard to find the motivation to cook. I know that I will miss being able to run down the stairs when I smell food being cooked. I don't want to be responsible and cook! (UGH)

2. I will miss the dancing and singing in the kitchen

Mom, you don't judge me (at least aloud) when I'm pretending I can bust a move and rap a song. You are usually getting the lyrics wrong and pretending you can dance along with me. You never fail to throw up a few signs that make me wonder if you belonged in a gang in your past life. A little T Pain, Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne, and Miley Cyrus always makes us jump around the kitchen and pretend like everything is okay for a while. I'll miss having my dancing partner in the kitchen.

3. You always know what to say

Ma, you always know what to say to make me feel better. We both know my panic attacks have sent me over the edge and you have always calmed me down. You always know how to help me with lesson plans and any education stuff. I will miss someone being a few rooms away to guide me through my panic attacks, my education things, and just anything about life.

4. You don't judge me for my looks

You have seen me at my WORST. By my worst, I mean dry shampoo for day 5, the same pj's for days, no makeup, no pants, etc. You have seen it ALL. I am so comfortable around you and I will miss that. I think my roommate may think i'm gross if I wear the same pj's all week or see how many days I can use dry shampoo. You're always there to remind me my hair needs a wash. I'll miss our comfort and openness.

5. You are my biggest critique/biggest cheerleader

You always tell me when an outfit looks dumb, a paper sounds stupid, or my hairstyle looks like a rats nest. You would never let me look bad. I love that about you. You're always giving me honest advice. I will miss being able to run down the steps and get your critique on my outfit. You always cheer me on when I look good, - after my hair appointment, when I put together a nice outfit, when I write a bomb paper, when I find a great sale, and on and on. Life will never be the same when I can't run downstairs to get a little pump up or a "you need to change."

6. You are my favorite movie partner

We both love lazy nights with some pizza and a good Lifetime movie. I will hate when I can't cuddle up with you and cry or laugh over a good movie. I will always think of you when I watch them and wish I was with you eating pizza. You are my favorite person to watch movies with- as long as you actually stay awake.

7. I will miss your decorating

I know we give you a hard time, but you make the house beautiful. Now I have to make my own place pretty?! I should've paid more attention. Everyone compliments how pretty our house is and we know it isn't by Billy Thompson. You make the place we love bright, happy and full of love. I will miss that feeling.

8. You always laugh with me

I'm probably not as funny as I think I am, but you laugh most of the time with me. Whenever I find a funny meme or GIF, you are there to appreciate it and laugh along with me. We have the same sense of humor and when we're together I can't imagine how annoying we sound. I will miss your laughter.

9. Your bed is my favorite place

I may be almost 22, but your bed is my happy place. It is comfy, big and it smells like home. I live for days we can snuggle up and laugh and be together. I will miss your snuggles the most.

10. You make my world go round.

You are my momma, my person, my best friend and my rock. Things won't be the same as they were when you were only a few rooms away. I will be sad more often than most people. I will miss your hugs, your love and everything about living with you.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
