New York is a very interesting state to live in and grow up in. There are things that New Yorkers are used to that other people from other states wouldn't understand. Here are 10 things you know to be true if you are from New York.

1. Going to NYC is no big deal.

Since NYC is so close, it is easy to take the train to the city and make a day trip. It almost requires no prior planning. Once you get to the city, you pretty much may no attention to the "unique" people that are stationed at different blocks. You tend to partake in the same activities when you get to the city because everything is always so expensive.

2. NY bagels are a must have.

This is the one thing everyone looks forward to when going back home to New York. From salt bagels to onion bagels, there are a variety of bagels to pick from and everyone is so obsessed with them. There is a bagel for everyone and if you are from NY, you know exactly which one is your fave.

3. Long Island beaches are popping in the summer.

Everyone from the surrounding areas comes to spend time at the beach in summer, which makes for pretty crowded beaches. There will be times when you can practically touch the people next to you while sitting on your beach blanket.

4. Terrible drivers are everywhere because everyone is a horrible, crazy, ruthless driver.

I mean most people in New York think that they are the best drivers in the entire world. However, most likely you know that this is definitely the case. No one really knows how to drive, after all.

5. Schools are canceled a lot for the weather. Snowstorm? Hurricane? Yup, closed.

New York, especially the city and Long Island, gets hit with a lot of terrible weather. Schools are guaranteed to close at least 3 times for the weather during the course of the school year. In 2012, schools were closed up to two weeks because of the hurricane. NY is hit year 'round by crazy weather making the schools close quite frequently.

6. Out of towners think you talk funny.

Whether it is your accent or what you call different things, everyone makes fun of you for it. You probably call whole pizza a "pie." You probably also pronounce words that end with "ar" with "ah." For instance, there is no such thing as a "car", but much rather a "cah."

7. You have pretty much mastered jaywalking.

Who needs stop lights and crosswalk lights when you can just cut across traffic like a pro? Jaywalking is a way of life for New Yorkers. No one has time to wait for the light to turn so we can get across.

8. Slow people are infuriating because everyone is always in a rush.

New Yorkers are always known for being very fast paced people and always in a hurry. Therefore, coming across slow people drive New Yorkers NUTS!

9. Regents Exams in high school were the epitome of misery.

Regents week was the most horrible thing in the entire world. The entire school year prepared you for this week when you had to take all of your Regents, whether it was Earth Science or World History. It was an entire week dedicated to these dreaded 2-hour exams.

10. There are 3 parts of NY in which people live in; upstate, the city, and Long Island.

There are 3 divisions where New Yorkers live. New Yorkers consider everything above the Bronx is upstate. Then, the city, which consists of Brooklyn, Queens, Manhatten, The Bronx, and Staten Island. Lastly, there is Long Island which everyone is convinced should be its own state.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
