10 Things to Do in Statesboro With Your Significant Other on Valentine's Day

Sometimes it seems like there is nothing going on in small town Statesboro. Here are some ideas for things you can do on Valentine’s day without breaking your bank or driving an hour to Savannah or Tybee.

1. Go out to eat. Between Longhorn, Olive Garden, and Millhouse, there is somewhere fancy and romantic to take your loved one. Have a little fun with it and dress up really nice.

2. Hang out on sweetheart circle. Bring a picnic, or an eno, or if you’re feeling adventurous, walk around it three times holding the hand of your sweetheart. You know the legend.

3. Go to The Clubhouse. There is bowling, laser tag, go-karts, and arcade games. It will be a blast.

4. Take a drive. Specifically, down Savannah Ave. The prettiest houses are on that stretch of road. Play the game where every time you get to a stop sign or stop light you flip a coin and assign left to heads and right to tails and go on a mini adventure.

5. Make dinner at home, and then go out for dessert. Nothing beats a romantic home cooked meal. Then you can take your pick of cupcakes from Simply Sweet, a lava cake from Longhorn, or Frozen Yogurt.

6. Go to a movie at Carmike. The Wedding Ringer is out if you want a Comedy, American Sniper is out if you want something more intimate.

7. Go find a dirt road and park your car. Lie on the roof of your car (or in the bed of your truck) and stare at the stars. Bring some blankets for when the temperature drops.

8. Have a romantic night in. Buy cookie dough or brownie mix and some ice-cream and make some treats while you watch Netflix or rent a movie from Redbox. This one takes minimal effort but is super relaxing.

9. Rent a hotel for the weekend. Okay, I know I said these ideas wouldn’t break the bank, but if you and your significant other split expenses, this can be doable. Get one with an indoor pool and free breakfast. If you’re feeling fancy get room service and stay in and watch movies all night. This will give y'all privacy and make you feel like you are escaping Statesboro for the night.

10. Visit any of Georgia Southern’s free attractions. From the museum to the wildlife center to the Garden of the Coastal Plain, there is going to be something fun and interesting and also free to do with your loved one.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
