It’s that time of year again! The sun is rising earlier and setting later, giving us more time to get outside to enjoy the lovely weather spring has to offer. The list of spring activities goes on and on but here’s a couple to get your season off to a great start.

1. Have a picnic

All you really need is a blanket and a few sandwiches to enjoy a fun picnic with friends this spring. Ask each friend to bring something different to the outing to create a little variety and bring a Frisbee or ball to toss around after you eat. If you want to spice it up a bit, make it a barbecue. Have each person bring a side or dessert and enjoy a hamburger or hotdog on the grill.

2. Go Geocaching

This is a fun activity that you can do wherever you are! Geocaching is the epitome of an adventure and can be a blast and a friendly competition with friends. First, download the free Geocaching app on your smartphone and click on the cache you want to find. There are usually hints to lead you to your destination as well as coordinates to guide you. When you find the cache you’re looking for, log your name and move on to the next one. If you’re really good, you might want to download Geocaching Premium to challenge yourself even more!

3. Hang a hammock

One of the coolest things about spring is being able to kick off your sandals and swing in a hammock. Whether you’re taking a nap or studying, hammocking can be very relaxing and a great way to enjoy the outdoors no matter where you may be. So kick up your feet and unwind after a long day of classes. You deserve it.

4. Go camping

Pack a bag and a tent and set up camp for a weekend getaway with friends! Nothing beats sitting by a bonfire and roasting s'mores while reflecting on the best moments of the school year. If those April showers hit, no worries! Set up camp indoors and use your imagination! Microwave s'mores are easy to make and spending time with good friends can make it even better!

5. Go to a concert

Have you ever said, “I want to see ______ in concert so bad!” Do it this spring! There’s always an opportunity to see a concert, whether it be someone you’ve been a fan of for a while or a band you’ve never heard of, it can be a fun way to broaden your music library. Check out who’s putting on a concert near you and compare ticket prices for the best deals. If you’re really feeling adventurous, take a road trip and explore a different city while attending a concert you may never forget.

6. Get involved with outdoor intramurals

Intramurals are always a fun way to get more involved on campus and get good exercise outdoors! There are a ton of different intramurals that occur during the spring, such as tennis, soccer and golfing. Put a team together or become a free agent and get drafted by a random team! This is a great way to meet new friends while being active outside.

7. Study outside

Nothing compares to setting up a study space in the sunshine with the smell of spring around you. Grab your laptop and your homework and make studying enjoyable by being outside and getting a sun tan. If you’re working on a group project, encourage the team to join you outside.

8. Visit the local parks

An afternoon hike is always in order on a nice spring day. Some of the coolest parks are very close by and are a great place to go on a walk or a bike ride. Parks are also an awesome place to have a picnic and find a geocache, which calls for a very enjoyable spring outing.

9. Do a little spring cleaning

When summer hits, garage sales will too. Start preparing for a little extra cash by cleaning out your closet this spring. If the item is no longer in style or doesn’t fit, sell it! There are plenty of ways to get rid of your clothes, whether it be donating them to Goodwill or taking them to a consignment shop. Remember, spring also means prom season, so try selling those old dresses! One girl’s trash is another girl’s treasure.

10. Plant a garden

If finals are stressing you out, try planting a garden. This is a great way to relieve stress and often gives people a sense of accomplishment. Getting a few friends to help out can also be a fantastic way to bond and gives everyone a chance to do something great for the Earth.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
