10 Things You Should Be Doing Instead Of Pinteresting

In March of 2010 Pinterest was launched by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp. From that point on, social media, specifically photo sharing, was changed forever. Now, five years later, Pinterest is a part of everyday life, maybe a little too much for some people. I think we can all agree that there were many times that we were on Pinterest when we should have been doing something important. I know for me Pinterest is my guilty pleasure, especially when I am supposed to be doing these 10 important things instead of Pinterest.

1. Homework

Doing homework normally is hard enough without distractions, so trying to do homework while pinteresting is even harder. And we all know that by the time you finish you're just sitting on Pinterest with open books in your lap. That exam may be going on next week, but Pinterest is here now.

2. Sleeping

Sleeping is very important but so is pinning. It's only ten o'clock, I can get on Pinterest for a while. Next thing you know, its three in the morning and you are still scrolling. When you wake up, you realize that your phone is still in your hand from the night before. Were all those pins worth it, was that double chocolate cookie recipe worth it? Yes, the answer is yes, but maybe put down the phone for a little while and get some sleep instead.

3. Interacting with Others

Sometimes it is nice to just relax and be on Pinterest, but when you have Pinterest open every moment of the day maybe it is time to go and have some human interaction. I love staying home in my sweats as much as the next person, but it's time to put on real pants, exit out of Pinterest, and go outside.

4. Exercising

Pinning exercise routines and healthy food on Pinterest is not the same thing as actually getting up and working out. Your fingers may be getting some serious muscles as well as your hands from holding your phone to pin, but it might be better if you pick up some weights or get on a treadmill. Remember, bathing suit season is always coming.

5. Hygiene

After you put down the phone and go run, then you should leave it there and take a shower. To compromise, try taking a bath and using one of those book holders to put your phone on while you pin. It doesn't really matter, if you want to shower while pinning, get an iShower if you have that much dedication to Pinterest. What really needs to happen is that you need to shower or take a bath or run in the rain with a shampoo bottle, then get back to pinning.

6. Family Function

I know that going to family functions are not exactly the most fun thing to do with your time. Pinterest is the most fun thing to do with your time, but if you are sitting next to your uncle at Christmas or Thanksgiving and he is trying to talk to you maybe you should talk back, not get on Pinterest. Family functions are a way to reconnect with your family, not to reconnect to the Internet to pin that outfit to your board before you lose signal again.

7. Driving

Putting the phone down to do anything other than pinning is hard enough. Having to drive around without getting on Pinterest to see who repined your pin is very difficult but it is probably something you should save till your at a stop light or when you park your car. Heck if you are that desperate, go park in a McDonald's parking lot if you need to pin that bad, but you should definitely not be pinning on the road. Not a good idea.

8. Work

While you are at work, it is good to actually get some work done. If you are at your desk afraid that someone will walk by your cubicle and see Pinterest on an open tab, maybe you should exit out of that tab and work on the report that you know is due tomorrow. Another problem that cannot happen is being late for work. Telling your boss that you were caught up scrolling and lost track of time is not a good enough excuse for being late. Put the phone down, get to work, and do Pinterest in secret like everyone else or you might not have a job to be late for.

9. Eating

We all love to eat, am I right? Yes, and sometimes it is nice to do Pinterest and eat. But when it is super early in the morning and you didn't get a lot of sleep (because you were on Pinterest all night), maybe its not such a good idea to pin and eat because you may end up eating your cereal with your phone instead of a spoon. You should be an expert on pinning and eating before you attempt to do both or you might accidentally drop your phone in your soup.

10. School

I am 99 percent sure that almost everyone has skipped school at least once in their life. Whether it was because you didn't study for the test today or you simply weren't feeling well, we have all done it so don't try and deny it. But skipping school because you want to pin all day long is not one of those reasons. Save pinning for walking back to your room or for between classes. Just get all cozy, put on Netflix, and snuggle up to pin for as long as you want. Go to class to get a job to buy the things that you pin.

Although Pinterest isn't for everyone (but I suggest that you check it out), maybe it would be best if you did these things before getting on Pinterest. Use Pinterest as a reward: do all of these things and then you can pin to your hearts content. So after you finish reading this article, go do some homework because I know you all have some and then get on Pinterest and pin all day.

Happy Pinning!!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
