10 Things Better Than Chewbacca Mom

By now you've surely seen the video clip of the Texas mom who bought a Chewbacca mask at JC Penney and posted a clip of her belly-laughing self on Facebook, generating 136 million views. For the record, I just watched it before writing this article and I can see why viewers are going crazy for "Chewbacca mom." Her boisterous laugh and childlike wonder remind us of what joy still lies in the simple experiences in life. In case you haven't seen the clip, you can view it here:

A few things spring to mind when I think of simple human pleasures - those experiences money can't buy. If you haven't already enjoyed some or all of these endorphin-inducing experiences, you should add them to your list of "life's simple pleasures" and make it your mission to indulge in each one!

1. Digging your feet into wet sea sand on a hot, sunny day, feeling the coarse grains shift between your toes.

2. Marveling at a beautiful rainbow after a cleansing rain shower.

Few things compare to the smell of a recent earth-cleansing downpour. Keep chasing that pot of gold!

3. Snuggling with your (or a relative/friend's) fur-babies.

The best therapy one can ask for is cuddling with a warm, fuzzy pet on a chilly, somber day. The feeling of unconditional love is undeniably healing to the soul.

4. A long hike in the mountains.

Getting back to nature is a simple pleasure that many deny themselves. Once you're out there on a trail in the mountains, breathing in the fresh air and casting your gaze upon mother nature's splendor, you're bound to feel invigorated and renewed.

5. The smell of spring blossoms.

Who doesn't love the scent of lilacs blooming in the heart of spring? Taking a deep whiff of the sweet smell is sure to please the olfactory sensors in the brain.

6. A long, cool shower at the end of a hot, sweat-inducing day.

Letting the cool, soothing water cleanse the body and wash away the remnants of physical and mental exhaustion is unparalleled.

7. A reassuring hug.

Give a loved one a big bear hug, just because you care. The human touch is essential to feeling loved and secure and we should indulge in the joy it brings.

8. A star-filled sky on a clear night.

The awe-inspiring sight reminds us of the sheer magnitude of our universe and constantly fills us with a sense of wonder at the glorious display of beauty.

9. Ocean waves.

The sound of the waves crashing on the shore can be hypnotic and soothing.

10. A beautiful sunset.

In my opinion, a Colorado sunset is unrivaled by any other. The blend of oranges and blues create a fresh artwork each day, as the sun sinks beneath the horizon.

Now venture out and start experiencing these magnificent (and free) opportunities mother nature affords us every day!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
