10 Things To Remind Yourself When Life Gets Tough
Alexander Vinogradov

Life can be really hard and we often forget about certain things as we're dealing with all the stresses life can throw at us. Here are ten things you should remind yourself every once in a while:

1. You can't get over something until you make the decision to let it go.

You don't have to let your past dictate your future. If you dwell over something from your past it can prevent you from moving on and finding bigger and better opportunities for yourself.

2. You don't need to compare yourself to other people to feel confident about who you are as a person.

Sure, she’s super pretty, but so are you. Yeah her hair might be longer, or she might have clearer skin than you, but that doesn’t take away from your own beauty. Everyone is beautiful in such an incredibly unique way. Don’t lose sight of that.

3. It's OK to tell somebody no.

You like to make everybody happy and sometimes you can lose yourself in the process. Don’t be afraid to tell somebody no if that means that you’re doing something better for yourself in the process. You can’t please everybody all the time.

4. Nobody in this world can make you feel any certain way without you allowing them to.

Don’t let that a**hole ruin your day. You were having a great day until someone came around and took their frustrations out on you. Don’t let someone else’s bad day become your own.

5. Your friends will support you through every stupid decision you make.

Even if your friends don’t agree with the decision you make, you know in the end they will always be there for you despite the fact you did the EXACT opposite of what they all said you should do. Who cares? As long as at the end of the day they’re there with ice-cream and shovels (if necessary).

6. There is always somebody out there that loves you unconditionally.

You are never alone when it comes to love. There’s always someone rooting for you on the sidelines. You radiate love and people see that, and that’s what makes you so special.

7. Don't lose sight of what's really important to you.

Don’t forget about what matters to you. It’s easy to forget about what you really care about in the grand scheme of things. Don’t allow your experiences to chip away at your values and what matters to you.

8. You don't have to have it all figured out.

You don’t always have to have complete control over everything that happens in your life! You can only micromanage so much. Sometimes you have to just roll with it.

9. What other people think is irrelevant.

DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY! Don’t let what people think prevent you from doing things that bring joy into your life.

10. You're human.

Stop being so hard on yourself constantly. Life sometimes likes to throw punches and you’re usually good at avoiding them. But sometimes life throws a frying pan at your face and you fall down. You need to know that it’s OK and that you’ll get through this. There’s only so much one person can do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
