Many of you know that this summer I am working for WinShape Camp for Communities. 28 of us are going to travel all around the south for 10 weeks and set up camps in many churches. While packing, there are many things that need to be remembered. When I got here, there were many things I had realized that I had forgotten and many things I was so thankful I packed. Here is a list of things that I think need to be remembered when packing for camp.
1. T-Shirts
You can never have enough T-Shirts. I made this mistake, I did not bring enough, and I will probably need to get some on our next Wal-Mart run. Your laundry gets lost and people ask borrow them. You just need to have enough of them.
2. Shorts
Bring shorts! Don't even bring pants. You will never wear them. It is way to hot. You might think "Hey these pants are cute, I'll bring them." Next thing you know you have seven pairs of pants packed and you will most likely not bring wear them once. At WinShape, since we travel, we only have one trunk to pack. I brought pants because I have tons of pants that I like. How many times have I worn pants? Once.
3. Laundry Bag
I forgot a laundry bag. It just wasn't something I thought about bringing. You need one though if you want your laundry to get done.
4. Back pack
Also something I forgot to bring. You need a bag to carry your stuff in. A fanny pack is recommended. I know, no one wants to wear one, but WinShape provided us with them! If everyone is doing it it becomes cool. Embrace the fanny pack!
5. Whistle
You will loose your voice screaming. A whistle is extremely vital for getting your campers attention. Something about having a whistle around your neck just makes you feel powerful.
6. Charging Chords
I always forget/loose my charger. You will want a charged phone when you are done with the day. I recommend labeling your chargers or any other chords you bring. Your phone is your outlet to the outside world.
7. Sturdy Shoes
Shoes take up space. I only brought three pairs for summer. Tennis shoes, flip-flops, and once nice pair. That being said, make sure the shoes you bring are sturdy. They are going to endure a lot this summer. They need to travel will and give you support since you are always on your feet.
8. Water Bottle
DRINK WATER. You need to drink water at camp. You need water to stay hydrated and just for your health in general. Always carry a water bottle with you.
9. Protein Bars
Your eating schedules can get pretty weird at camp. Bring a snack in your bag. The best would be a protein bar or a granola bar of some type. No one is happy when you're hungry, don't make the campers suffer because you need food.
10. A Comfort Item
Bring a little piece of home with you. Weather its a journal, photos, or even a stuffed animal of some type. Camp can be extremely overwhelming. It is a lot to take in at first.
I was so overwhelmed when this summer started, I still am a little. I had no idea what I was doing and I still don't in some ways. Although it is a lot and I am pretty much tired all the time, I know this is really going to be the summer of a lifetime.
