A few lucky people never get acne. Some people just end up with nice complexion. Hey, some people even seem to grow out of that, “teenage acne” phase of puberty. But apparently my body didn’t get the message when it was finally time to grow up (go figure?). My acne was never horrible in high school, but I wasn’t exactly asking it to stick around. I feel like as soon as I graduated high school it starting popping up like crazy. Lots of kids end up going through this at a young age and quickly learn how much acne can affect your life. You get called “pizza face” or “crater face” and after a while of blowing it off, it starts to get very irritating.
- “Just wash your face twice a day”-IT’S NOT LIKE I DON’T DO THAT NOW???
- “Have you tried proactive?”-Yeah I have, and I’m allergic to it. Yes I swear, my face blew up like a big red balloon.
- Just wear make up?”-First of all, not everyone can afford expensive make up. Second, not everyone has the skill and resources to learn how to correctly and successfully conceal blemishes (myself included). And third, some make up can actually worsen your acne...
- “You cant even see it”-YES, YES I CAN.
- “Don’t stress about it, it’ll just make it worse”-Telling someone not to stress is th easiest way to make someone stress.
- Just don’t touch your face?”-Okay that’s impossible even you have to know that?
- “Acne isn’t even that big of a deal, don’t let it affect you.”-Well I don’t really let it completely change my perspective on life, so you trying to counsel me feels a little condescending… and also, when you picture the perfect employee, no matter what it's for, you never picture acne do you? NO, because adults are supposed to look professional and grown up and that’s impossible with pimples scattered on your face.
- “Well just stop eating sugar, and drink a lot of water.”-HAH HAH that’s a funny joke! I haven’t really eaten unnecessary sugar in the past year, and it’s impossible to completely cut out sugar, so please tell me how that would work? And even though drinking water is always good for anything, it's not going to magically flush the oil out of your pores.
- “Keep your hair off your face.”-What? So I’m just supposed to wear my hair in a ponytail/ braid every day?
- “You’ll grow out of it”-You know, I might. But seeing as I’m almost 20 years old and I have worse acne than a 14 year old, I’m going to say that doesn’t work for everyone.
I didn’t want this to sound angry, but in all seriousness acne sucks. We know you’re just trying to help and make suggestions, but after a while they just get annoying (thanks though)!
