1. The first few days feel like a mistake.
You're sitting in your bed that first night thinking about everything you left back home praying you didn't just take a $20,000 student loan out to transfer back to your local community college.
2. The first two weeks are hard on your stomach.
You don't truly appreciate moms pan fried zucchini until the only vegetable you can get on your meal plan is sweet and sour carrots and some variation of potato.
3. Showering with flip flops never become a second nature.
And when you go to shave the top of your foot and accidentally nip the plastic thong and ruin your razor, don't worry, I do it every week too.
4. Everyone has something that they don't like about their school.
Nobody goes to a college that has zero flaws, so don't feel like you picked the wrong college because your friend from home doesn't complain about their dinning hall as much as you do.
5. It's ok to skip a class to sleep in once and a while.
You're not going to want to use all of your three unexcused absences for every class in the first month, but feel free to take a mental health day when the pressure starts to set in, reevaluate your responsibilities, and start fresh the next day.
6. It's cool to call your parents and even miss them.
In the end they're more than likely paying for your education. But on the off chance they they're not; they are the reason you're even alive to go to college.
7. You don't have to have a solid 20 person squad after the first hour of move-in day.
A lot of people chill alone and try to feel out the crowd of strangers before they commit themselves to a group of people they don't know. You'll find that most of the large groups of friends will break down into smaller subgroups, and that's when you can find a good fit for your friend needs.
8. Sitting around and waiting to be invited isn't going to get you anywhere.
People aren't going to knock on your dorm door begging you to go out with them; they're not. If you don't include yourself or make it known that you want to do something you're not going to do it, and you can't blame anyone but yourself.
9. It may feel like everyone's more sexually advanced than you, but most people you encounter are just starting to find themselves sexually.
It's ok to be a virgin or have only had a few boyfriends. You don't need to prove anything to anyone.
10. The person you used to be is gone; don't bring them back.
College is all about evolving and finding yourself. Even if that new self isn't as good as the old you was; there's a reason you turned into that person.
