Going home for Thanksgiving Break is something many college students look forward to. The food, being with your family, and the first signs that the semester is almost over can be exciting for anyone! Here are ten things that all college students can be reminded they are thankful for during this holiday break.
1. Your Family
This goes without saying, but deep down you know you missed bickering with your siblings and your dad’s stupid jokes.
2. Your Bathroom
You wish you never took for granted showering without shoes on or your high-quality two-ply toilet paper.
3. Home-Cooked Meals
Sure, the dining hall was fun for the first few weeks, but there’s only so many hamburgers and pizza slices you can eat before you start craving Mom’s homemade mac-n-cheese.
4. Driving
When my parents used to tell me “driving is a luxury” before handing me the keys, I never really knew what they meant until I didn’t have a car at my disposal. Having to rely on public transportation or walking to wherever you want to go was more of a hassle than I imagined.
5. Your Pets
You will be so grateful to be able to wake up with your furry friend laying right next to your bed as if you weren’t even gone these past four months … and your siblings will be thankful that you won’t be Facetiming them every night just to see your pet’s face
6. Your Hometown Friends
Those people you grew up with in high school but had to go separate ways for college? Yeah, you’re super thankful to have them to hang out with when your mother is smothering you with “family time” while you’re home.
7. Your Own Washing Machine
Yes, you never realized the pleasure of being able to leave your clothes in the dryer for a few hours and not be afraid of someone throwing them on the ground in your absence. More importantly, you’re thankful for your mother offering to do your laundry for you.
8. A Fully Stocked Fridge
Let’s face it, opening your mini fridge in your dorm room can be pretty depressing at times. If you were to look in mine right now, you’d find two tubes of Gogurt and some expired milk. That being said, there’s no luxury like going home and having an endless variety of food to stare at. It’s a little overwhelming. Plus, Thanksgiving means leftovers, lots and lots of leftovers.
9. Privacy
You know you love your roommate deep down, but there’s nothing like being able to walk around your room without pants on or play your music all night without the fear of disrupting their "study time."
10. Your College
Because as great as it is to be home for a week and see your loved ones, you’re secretly wishing you were back in your dorm being able to do whatever you want whenever you want.
