What It's Like To Be An Extremely Busy Girl

You are always on the move, and the struggle is real.

Your planner is life.

If it isn't in your planner, it’s not going to happen. Everything is in there. It keeps you sane, it keeps you together, it is your life.

You don’t understand how people just take a day off.

You see Snapchats of people who decided to drive to Utah for the day on a WEDNESDAY. A Wednesday and you're instantly jealous. A trip like that for you would need at least a two-week notice. It literally baffles you that people can just have time to do that, like what are you skipping?

“You are always busy.”

A true fact, but it also suddenly makes you feel really inadequate because you really don’t have time for people or “free time.” Suddenly you feel so guilty you work, go to school, and do like a hundred other things too. On the other hand, you look at whoever just said that (it’s always a boy let’s face it) and think “excuse me, I am building my empire, peasant.”

You live out of your car.

Your car’s backseat is full of different shirts, necklaces, and shoes. It’s always a mess because you haven’t scheduled time to clean it. You are forced to change in the back on your way from work to school, or from school to your internship.

Netflix is a faint memory.

The last time you watched a full season on Netflix was the last time you were sick, and that was a while ago because you don’t have time for that.

“Wow, you are always in the library.”

You get told this whenever someone sees you in the library. It's because it’s the one place you can get your homework done and not be bothered by other items on your to-do list. It's your work space, and when you aren’t in the library, you are running around like a crazy person.

“Why do you walk so fast?”

Too much to do, so little time.

People who get 8 hours of sleep don’t make sense to you.

HOW DO YOU HAVE TIME? The last time you got 8 hours of sleep you were like 5.

You have to schedule time to have mental breakdowns.

You really don’t have time to just fall apart, so you have to schedule the time to break down and cry in the bathroom of the library for 5 minutes. After that, our emotions will have to wait.

The idea of not being busy stresses you out.

One of those rare moments when you look at your planner and your to-do list is empty. Some people would call this summer, you call this panic mode. So you go get yourself two jobs, volunteer time, and an internship so you are no longer just able to sit on the beach.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
