When you start dating someone, you always go through that early phase of learning about each other and what makes them who they are. A big part of that make up includes family history. For some this is great, others not so much. Boys dating girls with brothers quickly find out they have someone special. We are kinda like a different species of girls with a very particular set of skills and attributes.

1. Be Prepared for Sarcasm and Teasing.

It was their main form of communication and endearment. We really don't mean it to be mean. It's just our knee jerk reaction to pretty much anything you say to us. Now don't be such a baby.

2. Your Bodily Functions Won't Gross Us Out.

I promise we've seen, smelt, or heard worse. I remember the first time my fiance farted in front of me, he was so worried about what my reaction would be. Little did he know that his fart from other side of the car paled in comparison to my brothers farting...on me.

3. We Get Sports.

I spent more time at the baseball field than any little girl could ever imagine. There were definitely times when I absolutely hated it, and they couldn't understand why. When I got into middle school and could throw a fastball better than any boy in the school, I thanked my baseball-obsessed brothers (in my head of course, I couldn't let them know they were right about something).

4. We Know How To Drink.

When I was a teenager, I tried my first beer. It was while my brothers urged me to chug that I spewed it all over them. Don't worry though, I can handle my alcohol a lot better now. Thanks to them of course (this time I would say it aloud, drunk mouth speaks the sober mind, right?!).

5. We Have Seen The Best and Worst of Boy Existence.

I've seen boys in every situation of life (some definitely not so pretty). I've seen how awesome, caring, witty, and strong boys can be. Unfortunately though, I have seen my brothers be absolute d***s as well. So be careful if any of you boys are trying to play a girl with brothers, she knows what you're up to. She's seen it all before.

6. We're Independent.

We love those boys and we love having them around (most of the time). However, they taught us not to be dependent on them. There were too many times I needed my brothers to reach something, carry something, kill some eight-legged-thing and they refused for the sheer reason that they wanted to be a pain (boys can be great). But guess what, I eventually figured out how to reach or carry whatever I needed (still working on always being able to kill bugs though).

7. We're Blunt. Period.

We grew up with boys. They are honest and full of opinions. We were never spared hearing what they thought and it was a habit we definitely picked up.

8. We've Got Personal Security Guards.

Definitely something to keep in mind if you're dating a girl with brothers. She has boys ready to take up for her, or take you down if you hurt her. It doesn't matter how good of a friend you make with them, she comes first. Good news for you is sometimes when we get a little too overzealous and want to kill you over something stupid, they can talk us down.

9. You'll Need More Than Dad's Permission and Approval.

They'll take up for us if you do us wrong, and they expect you to know that. They want the respect they feel (rightfully or not) that they deserve. So if you're getting serious about a girl with brothers (like pretty diamond ring serious) make sure you ask those brothers too.

10. We Know What We Deserve.

We may have been teased and picked on but ultimately we know how we deserve to be treated. At the end of the day, those boys loved us unconditionally and when we needed them the most they were always there.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
