I've always been on really strange terms with coffee. Some days my body takes it normally and it pulls my groggy mind back into the real world, as it should. Some days it doesn't work at all and I find myself falling asleep everywhere and anywhere. And some days it works a bit too well, and I get incredibly jittery and excitable before crashing into bouts of stomach aches and ending with a migraine. So more often then not, I drink tea instead of coffee, which has lead me to taste a good amount of teas. So here are twelve teas that you should definitely try if you're looking for a break from coffee.
1. Matcha Green Tea
What I really love about this one is it's health factor. Sure, there's enough caffeine in it to get you jumpstarted for the day, but it also helps you stay calm and focused. Some of my most productive study sessions have included sipping on this tea during. It's also a great antioxidant. You may find that it has sort of a strange taste when you first start drinking it, but if you can push past it the first few times I swear, the clarity is definitely worth it.
2. Raspberry Earl
I love this tea for its smell, its taste, its everything. This is hands down my go to tea for lazy Sunday afternoons when the sun is out and I'm napping in whatever makeshift bed I've created outside. Zhena's Gypsy Tea makes a raspberry earl that is to die for, and it's sweet enough to cover up the usual bitterness that those who don't like tea complain about, and is definitely a good place to start.
3. Lavender Green Tea
Lavender is known for its calming effects, and that's certainly what this tea does. Combined with the clarity of green tea and the wave of lavender calm, this you may just want to keep a steamy mug of this stuff under your nose all day just for the aromatic benefits of it.
4. Earl Grey
I think it's really easy to get English Breakfast and Earl Grey mixed up since they're essentially made up out of the same base ingredients and have the same nutritional value. I'd drink these two in the same day and mix them up sometimes. If you put them side by side, however, Earl Grey is definitely the sweeter, more refined of the two. Be careful not to steep it for too long though, because it can easily hit English Breakfast's level of harshness if not careful. This is definitely something that I prefer in the afternoons, and if you do mess it up by leaving the tea in for too long then it can always be saved with a splash of milk.
5. English Breakfast
If you like that bitter start to your morning that coffee gives you, then this tea is definitely for you. This is my go to breakfast tea, not just because of the name, but also because of the fact that it tastes so well paired up with breakfast foods. Having eggs? English Breakfast. Sausage? English Breakfast. Cereal? English Breakfast. As stated above its tones definitely are harsher than Earl Grey's but that's what makes it such a great way to bring your taste buds alive first thing in the morning.
6. Chamomile
This is the perfect tea for whenever you're in a panic or just want to go to sleep. It has a very soft taste to it, and tastes great paired with a bit of lemon or a simple short bread cookie. It's a great way to end the day and its gentle warmth also feels great whenever you catch cold or get a stomach ache.
7. Chrysanthemum
This is definitely an aquired taste, but is a hands down miracle worker in the heat. Whenever it get too hot out I just drink a cup of this and I can feel myself cool right back down. It also helps whenever you feel sick, such as sore throat, stomach aches, and respiratory problems.
8. Coconut Chai
This is another one of Zhena's Gypsy Teas that I absolutely love. Usually I'm not one for Coconut, but it actually helps make this tea's flavor actually resemble coffee somewhat. So if you're a coffee lover then this is definitely one to try.
9. Honey Green Tea with Ginseng
This is the tea that I always use to bring me back from the grave after not sleeping enough. Yes, the answer to that problem should be going to bed on time and ensuring that you get enough rest, but some days it can't be helped and this tea is what keeps me moving throughout the day. Like the matcha, you get this nice clear clam, but the taste is a lot sweeter due to the honey and the ginseng gives you this nice extra boost.
10. Raspberry Rose Tea
This is a tea that I forewarn you is not one that should over steeped. I mean all teas should be steeped to just the right timing, but this one especially so. Steep any rose tea really too long and it will taste like soap. Or Perfume. Or whatever rose scented body products you've smelt before. However get it just right and this one is just as good, if not better, than the Raspberry Earl and is definitely worth a shot so long as you keep a close eye on the time.
