You know those songs that get stuck in your head, or those songs you forget about and immediately freak out when they come on? The songs you spent hours learning the words to and the ones that you listened to too many times and just knew the words from that? These are my personal favs, the MVP’s of the sing-a-long game. Are most of them from the early 2000’s? Yes, of course. The 2000’s were the decade of a lifetime and you know all the classics come from there. Here are 10 songs that you definitely know you know the words to:
1. Sweet Caroline- Neil Diamond

This song is classic. The original people pleaser. I requested this to play at my brother's wedding and he told the DJ not to play it because he thinks he's too good for it. Pst. When I bribed the DJ and the song played, he was singing and smiling with everybody else as the first chorus started. It’s a feel good song. Who can pass up singing in unison “Good times never seem so good. SO GOOD. SO GOOD. SO GOOD.” This song is the song you sing with total strangers and by the end you guys are best friends. If you don’t have your arms wrapped around the person next to you swaying back and forth, if you don't reach to one of your friends and grab their hands when Neil Diamond says so, you are doing it wrong.
2. Ignition (Remix)- R. Kelly

Are you flying first class up in the sky? Are you popping champagne, living the life? No probably not. But when this song comes on you better feel like you are. Fergie is an icon. That’s an overstatement but you can bet she has a better life than you do. I personally like “London Bridge” more than “Glamorous”, but when Fergie hits you with the “I still go to Taco Bell, drive though raw as hell.” you realize Fergie is just like us, she goes to Taco Bell. We go to Taco Bell. Wow. Everyone knows the lyrics to “Glamorous”, mostly because half of it is just spelling the word. You put this on at a party and I swear every girl will try to impress you with knowing the words to the rap. It’s not impressive if everyone knows it Karen, UGH! The title says it all... this song is Glamorous.
4. Yeah!- Usher

Does Usher only know one word? Yeah! See what I did there? I know, i’m hilarious. Maybe people only know all the words to this song because it honestly has less than 10 words in it total or maybe it’s because it’s insanely catchy. Proud of you, Usher, for making this song up. It might have not taken much brain power but it’s the OG Usher song. Anyone know any other Usher songs? No, because “Yeah!” is the only one you need to know. This is a personal favorite song request of mine. It doesn't disappoint.
5. Mr. Brightside- The Killers

This is self-explanatory. This is a song. This is a great song. You definitely know the words to this song because it’s amazing. “It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this? It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss.” It was only a kiss guys! That’s all. Wow. The killers killed it with this one. I know I hate myself for making these stupid jokes too but I got to. Sorry. Seriously, this song is something you can listen to at literally anytime and not be annoyed by it. Go listen to this song right now. It’s such a good one. Thats all I can say. You know these words, I don't even have to explain why you know them. You just know them.
6. Everytime We Touch- Cascada

This was the go-to DDR song, when DDR was popular. Wow, I miss DDR. I always pull out those DDR moves when this comes on. Left, Left, Right, Front, Back, Jump both sides, Repeat. This song will never go out of style. I promise you that. It’s upbeat, fast paced and the lyrics are on point. If you don’t know these lyrics, you weren’t raised properly. If you played any other song on DDR besides this then you don’t know how to play DDR and I feel bad for you. If you can’t tell I like DDR a little bit. This song makes everyone happy, and it’s a go to scream the lyrics at the top of your lungs kind of song.
7. Party in The U.S.A- Miley Cyrus

When this song comes on you better put your hands, the butterflies better fly away, you gotta be nodding your head like “Yeah” and moving you hips like “Yeah”. If you don’t do exactly what Miley Cyrus does when “her song” comes on then you are doing something wrong. Party in the U.S.A Miley, is the the only Miley you still related to when she killed Hannah Montana. This song made you believe that life without Hannah was gonna be okay. And then she pole danced during this song on stage and everyone freaked out and you knew it was gonna go downhill from there. Everyone knows this song, everyone sings this song, everyone sways there hips when Miley says so and everyone feels happy when this song comes on. Miley’s transition out of Hannah Montana might have been interesting for everyone, but we should be blessed that we got this song out of it.
8. Stacy’s Mom- Fountain's of Wayne

Stacy’s mom most definitely has it going on. I wouldn’t say this is the best dancing song but it's a good car ride song for sure. People know these lyrics like they know their own birthday, they have been engrained in their minds. This song comes on and everyone immediately makes eye contact with their friend and sings “Stacy can I come over after schoo-oo-ool? After school?” Yes, you can come over after school. Thanks for asking.
9. All Star- Smash Mouth

Not only does everyone know this because it’s in the best movie ever, “Shrek”, but it also an amazing song. Classic is an understatement. Original feel good? That sounds more like it. This song makes everybody feel like an All Star, a Rockstar or a Superstar. There is nothing else to say about it. It’s catchy, it’s amazing and people forget how good it is until it comes on. “Shrek” obviously has the best movie sound track there is. There's no debating that statement. It’s the only Smash Mouth song I know to be honest, but it’s a damn good one.
10. Wannabe- Spice Girls

The Spice Girls are Legends. This is a group sing-a-long song. This is a girls night song. Who has girls night’s anymore? Ah whatever, this is still relevant I promise. Sporty, Scary, Baby, Posh and Ginger spice come out in every group of teenage girls when this song comes on. And some teenage boys, let's not generalize. “If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends.” 100% when you play this song somewhere, you can guarantee that your made every teenage girls night. Congratulations!
Bonus: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air- DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince

“Now this is the story, all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down..” You may not know the words to this song but if you do Mad props. This not only was an amazing show, but an amazing song and I just wanted to give it some recognition. This song deserves a huge shoutout, even though it’s not in the 10 songs I know you know the words to. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, you rock.
I'll let you go add these songs to your playlist right now if you haven't done that yet. These are classic songs and you know the words to all of them.

Glamorous- Fergie
