Music is something that brings people together. I have encountered people that dislike music only a handful of times in my life. The thing about music, however, is that everyone has their own tastes.
Personally, my music taste changes depending on the day. This leaves me with a music taste spanning genres, artists and playlists from all sides of the art form. One of my favorite things about music, and music online specifically, is that there are songs and artists out there that produce fantastic content that is heard few and far between. This is a list of music worth listening to that you've probably never heard before.
1. Michl - "Gone"
Michl is a SoundCloud artist with only 25,000 followers. "Gone" is a song with a soft, slow melodic feeling. A majority of Michl's music follows this pattern, with fantastic beats and high-pitched vocals.
2. EDEN - "Wake Up"
EDEN is potentially the most recognizable artist on this list. "Wake Up" is a departure from EDEN's EDM sound of the past. With his departure from EDM, his style has moved more towards an indie-pop sound. "Wake Up" is a slower song than one would expect from EDEN, and it is one of his most popular.
3. Olivia O'Brien ft. Blackbear - "Root Beer Float"
Most listeners would recognize Olivia O'Brien as the featured artist on gnash's i hate u i love u off of his 'us' EP; however, she is also a successful solo artist. "Root Beer Float" was her third single of 2016, featuring hip-hop artist and producer Blackbear. The song is upbeat, with fast vocals and a poppy backtrack, a perfect song for a summer playlist.
4. BLESSED - "Insanity"
BLESSED is one of the least recognizable artists on this list. An aspiring hip-hop artist from Australia, his songs feature a strong Kid Cudi feeling. "Insanity" is his most recent single from 2016, featuring a drum-heavy backtrack and soft, rhythmic vocals. As the song progresses, it gains some speed and the beat
5. Raji The One - "#WhiteGirlVoice"
Following up with another hip-hop title, Raji The One brings a strong Drake and Bryson Tiller vibe to "#WhtieGirlVoice"—so much so that listeners believed it was a song of theirs before he clarified. It has a solid beat with fantastic vocals on top.
6. Raury - "God's Whisper"
Another potentially recognizable song on the list, "God's Whisper" has a strong upbeat, inspirational feel. It's a song that you can run to, sing along to, shout at the top of your lungs to. Featured in the trailer for "American Honey," a new Shia LaBeouf film, the song personifies going out as the sun sets on an intense summer day.
7. gnash - "something"
gnash is by far the most recognizable artist on this list, with songs being featured regularly on FM radio. "something" is one of his most recent releases of 2016. An upbeat love song, "something" is one of gnash's best releases in recent memory. When listening to "something," there is no doubt that you'll have a special someone in mind.
8. Goody Grace ft. gnash - "Two Shots"
By far one of the least recognizable artists on the list, Goody Grace is frequently paired with gnash. "Two Shots" is one of these cases, wherein gnash is featured on the song. The song begins slow, with a soft intro. Shifting into gnash's faster hip-hop lyrical verse, the song's back track remains slow and methodical.
9. Luke Christopher - "Atlas"
Luke Christoper's "Atlas" features an upbeat message, a fast backtrack and fast, referential lyrics. With "Atlas" specifically, he released an Alternate version that is more palatable than the original. As the song progresses, the background continues to flow with fantastic piano and percussion.
10. Adam Jensen - "The Mystic"
A departure from Adam Jensen's typical indiepop style, "The Mystic" features a more raw, slow style. The song is passionate and heartfelt, something that listeners can feel in their soul. It is one of my favorite on the list, something that I'd .stick on any chill playlist.
