10 Simple Ways to Change Your Life
Hayley Mitchell

You're all old enough to know that life kind of sucks but are you old enough to know that there are some really easy ways to change that? I asked around and received different ideas for how anyone, young or old, tall or short, can change their life to make it great. I then listed them here for everyone to read, so without further delay, here are 15 simple ways to change your life for the better.

1. Live in the moment.

One one of my favorite quotes is, "no amount of regret can change the past and no amount of anxiety can change the future." Don't let life pass you by because you were too worried about the GPA you earned last semester or the GPA you are going to get this semester. Live in moment. Life is too short to let anyone take that moment away from so you might as well enjoy it.

2. When you look in any mirror in the morning, tell yourself that you are going to have a great day and that you can make it happen.

That little moment can have a long lasting impression on your whole day so when something goes wrong, you can reflect on that and remember that you have the power to change how you think about it. Turn the situation into a good one no matter how bad it is. So, you got fired? So what? Now you have the perfect excuse to go look for a job you actually want, one that you actually want to go to everyday. Take the chance and go do it.

3. Do something fun everyday.

It does not have to be a big thing, it can be something small but if you find it to be fun, what does it matter? It can be something as big as take the day off work and take a friend to the amusement park. It can also be something as small as tickling your wife or girlfriend (or your husband/boyfriend). Just take 5 minutes each day to do something fun.

4. Each day, dress like you are about to meet your arch nemesis.

I mean, think about it, if you were to meet this person would you want them to see you in something fabulous or in something not so fabulous? Don't get me wrong, sometimes you would prefer to dress comfortable, I totally understand that, but dressing nicely most days still makes a difference in improving life. On days you dress comfy you can assume your nemesis will just be at their Sunday brunch and have no time for other things.

5. Tell yourself each day that you are a beautiful human being and you sparkle like the inner fairy you are.

Okay maybe not so much that second part of that, but I figured you could still get a laugh out of that. You are a beautiful human being and telling yourself that each day makes you believe it... Who knows, with enough magic you could maybe one day be a fairy! Don't lie, you and I both know that is a dream of everybody's, including yours.

6. Surround yourself with positive people and friends.

And if you are stuck in a situation that you are surrounded by negative people and cannot get out of it, just remember that you have the power to change how you personally think and make it positive. If that doesn't work, find someone to rant to and let it out of your system but don't forget to say something positive to ensure you do not stay thinking negative.

7. Take it slow.

Life is something some people do not enjoy. It is something some people enjoy too, much and some people just know how to take easy, pace themselves, and simply enjoy it all. Wherever you fall on the scale, just remember that rushing through it will get you nowhere and it won't save any time at all. Take it slow and enjoy it before it is gone and can't be rushed through anymore.

8. SPONTANEOUS ADVENTURES!!!

What is life without a little adventure? Take a mysterious road trip and see how much in life you really don't need to really enjoy it. Take someone to go star gazing, go to a bookstore just to browse. Whatever you do just go adventure. How do you know you don't like hiking if you have never been? Take the adventure and go hiking!

9. Find a passion and wherever it leads, follow it, no questions asked.

If you manage to find something that you have a passion for, why not follow it? Why can't you just pick up and go? Why is it that you can't just follow it? If you developed a passion for it, what's stopping you? You are reading this because you want to change, so why not change? Find a passion and simply follow it.

10. Realize that the only thing stopping you from being happy is you.

Humans are really interesting creatures, one person can rule about 1/3 of Europe and one person can question if they can survive high school. You have heard it a thousand times, but the only thing keeping you from being happy is indeed you. Humans have so much potential and that does not exclude you. You have the potential to be the greatest you can be and you don't even know it yet. Then again I just told you... take your potential and do something with it.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
