10 Signs You're Dating A Band Nerd

There's a special thing about a student involved in band. They have so much dedication and put 100% effort into everything they do. If you're dating a band nerd, you have come to realize a lot of things. Though every couple is different, here are a few things I have noticed from dating my band nerd.

1. They have so many auditions

Within your school years, you thought you had a lot of auditions. However, nothing compares to District Music Contest, in class auditions, and eventually auditions for Music Education and the famous college marching band. 9 times out of 10 your band nerd will think that they bombed their audition, when they actually did very well.

2. The attempt they give to teach you how to read music

It comes to naturally to them. You have to give them credit for at least attempting to teach you how to read the easiest pieces of music.

3. "You should learn *insert instrument* so we can play a duet"

It may sound fun, but in essence the skill level you would be playing with would be way over your head. Especially if you don't know how to read music or play an instrument, other than a recorder.

4. Practice upon practice upon practice

"I have morning practice and I'm staying after school today to practice for band."

5. Pep band...LOTS of pep band

It seems to be a never ending cycle of loud, excited sounding instruments, especially during pep band season.

6. You learn how much music can help you in school

Music can help any person with reading, science, and math. If you would like to hear a full on rant about this topic, go find a band nerd.

7. You're thankful they have a band teacher and a mentor in one

Someone that they can go to at any time of day and who will give them the best advice, not only in band but also in life.

8. They prove a lot of people wrong

Whether it's participating in simple competitions at school or playing a really high note in band class, they prove a lot of people wrong.

9. All of the "that one time at band camp" stories

Seriously, in the summer the stories seem to never end. It's okay though because they're sometimes amusing.

10. They inform you that their instrument is better than other instruments

For me, the trumpet may be made clear that it's the greatest instrument of all time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
