High school is four of the best years of your life, especially when you're from a small town where everyone knows everyone. And, by a small town, I mean that little 'village' between Saginaw, Midland, and Bay City that everyone outside of Freeland tends to forget about. Even if you're excited to leave for college, after you're done with high school here, you're going to miss the small town family vibe that we've got going here once you move to that big college campus.
1. Everyone knows everyone. Literally.
You most likely attended high school with one or more family members - cousins, brothers, sisters. Most teachers know everyone with your last name that graduated before you came along. You also probably know a majority of the high school at least on a first name basis.
2. Fall Friday nights were solely focused on football games.
The halls were full of football jerseys, most people made it a point to attend the game, and it was one of the most exciting nights of the week. Every game had a theme and the main focus was beating out other school's student sections (especially Swan Valley). It didn't matter if it was 70 degrees and sunny or 30 degrees and snowing, everyone came out to support the team.
3. Constant fights about which class got to sit in the front of the student section.
...And, the seniors usually won the argument after some coaxing. I guess it's just a senior privilege to hype up the team.
4. 80 percent of the guys you talk to consistently talk about their trucks.
"Dude, check out my headlights, rims, tires".... The list goes on.
5. Whenever Freeland played Swan Valley in any sport, you knew there was about to be some Twitter drama.
Don't worry, though, it was all in good fun. ;)
6. You lived for the Hungry Howie's pizza days.
Walking through the hall to lunch trying to avoid getting trampled by the kids sprinting to get a couple pieces of pizza; those were the days.
7. You consider everyone your neighbor.
None of your friends normally live farther than 4 miles from you, making pretty much everyone your neighbor.
8. Walking into Ms. Krygier's 'Friday Lights'.
"Smile! It's Friday!" Just some festive lights to 'brighten' up your Friday to get excited for the weekend ahead.
9. One of the biggest struggles is Electronic Research your senior year.
The stress was really realizing that your senior project determines if you're graduating. But after a few mental breakdowns and a panic attack before presenting to the judges, it was over and you were moving on with life.
10. Znarf. That's all.
From calling you "hooligans" to his sarcastic attitude, he couldn't help but be your favorite teacher, if you were lucky enough to have him.
