College is a time for new experiences, including new friends. The beautiful thing about college is everyone is like the new kid in school – everyone's making new friends, and it is so exciting. Here are some signs you have found your college bestie.
1. You both love the same TV show.
Nothing beats a long day of classes better than curling up in bed and watching Netflix. There is no one you would rather watch four straight hours of "Law and Order: SVU" with. Suddenly, watching an episode or two before bed together becomes a nightly rituals.
2. Separation anxiety is a real thing.
While most college kids are excited to go home for winter break, you can't help but feel a little bummed you're leaving what feels like your soulmate behind. Separation anxiety is a real thing, and you drive your parents insane with the amount you talk about your best friend. FaceTiming becomes a part of your routine.
3. Inside jokes.
Most people wouldn't understand the humor in fruit and squats, but there was that one time in that one class... it only makes sense to the two of you. If one of you is having a rough day, all the other one has to do is mention "Eat some fruit, do some squats..." and the rest is laughter, I mean, history.
4. You become each other's mom's.
Since we can't bring our moms to college (which is probably a good thing as mine would be traumatized I ate four Oreos last night and called it dinner) we have to use each other. Whether it's helping one another out after a drunken Halloween party, being a shoulder to cry on or cooking dinner together, you are impromptu moms to one another.
5. You are each other's dinner dates.
No one likes eating at the dining hall alone, especially at dinner. Eating dinner together has become a regular thing. When you're tired of dining hall food, you spend hours on Pinterest finding the perfect dinner recipe to cook together (however, you eventually ditch those plans after your "skinny chicken parm" looks like a bloody massacre and end up having a Domino's pizza dinner date instead).
6. Getting homesick together.
Neither of you can believe your college town doesn't have a Dunkin Donuts. Complaining about the lack of good coffee has become a bonding experience. You show each other pictures of your friends back home and complain about your new town together, but in the end, you both know you could never leave because that's how you met each other.
7. Planning out your lives together.
The topics of where you plan to live after graduation, your second son's middle name and how many dogs you intend on having (it's four, so far) are common conversation between you two. People look at you like you're crazy, but they're crazy if they don't think your children will be best friends. You need to plan these things out!
8. Your closets might as well be one.
Forever wishing your closets could magically mash together and make one big closet because all you do is share clothes.
9. Sporting events wouldn't be the same without one another.
Who else is going to paint my face green? Who else will explain football to me? Who else is going to be on my team at corn hole? These are serious questions, people!
10. You spend time thinking about why you weren't in each other's lives earlier.
How did I not have fruit squat jokes in my life earlier? You can't imagine life without them and can't believe there was a time without them. No matter how homesick you get, you could never leave college because it would mean leaving your best friend.
