10 Reasons Why You Should Consider Joining a Sorority

Fall recruitment is right around the corner and you're thinking:

"Should I do it?"

"Is being in a sorority really for me?"

The answer is TRY. The worst thing you could do is go your entire college career thinking about how different it could have been. If you're hesitant, remember that going through the recruitment process isn't a commitment. It's an opportunity to feel out the greek community and learn what it has to offer you.

Maybe you'll walk out realizing it's not your thing. But maybe you'll walk out thinking

"Those are my people."

So whether you're on the fence, or already 100 percent sure you want to be a part of a sorority, here's 10 things that might change your mind or make your decision stronger.

1. The support system

It's exciting being in college surrounded by thousands of new people and exciting things. But it's important to remember how lonely you can feel in a crowd of unfamiliar faces. Joining a sorority gives you the opportunity to be a part of something, and odds are, you'll never feel alone again.

2. Possibility of finding your other half

Someone who's equally as insane as you are.

3. There's a sister for everything

...Especially music festivals. Whether you're looking for someone to share your passion of music with, or a spontaneous lunch date, there's a least one sister who's always down.

4. It's not the stereotype

You might have this idea that you're "not a sorority girl" but if there's one thing that greek life has taught me, it's that every girl has something different and unique to bring to their organization; starting from their style to their passions. These differences are what makes each sorority so unique.

5. Connections and opportunities

The amount of job and internship opportunities that you're able to pull through other sisters, even after you graduate, is incredible. You're always surrounded by women with similar interest, majors, and passions which has the ability to not only impact your college years, but many years to come.

6. Automatic involvement on campus

Without a little push, it's hard to be an active student on campus. Luckily, being involved in greek life gives you the opportunity to participate in philanthropy events and teaming up with other organizations in order to give back to your community!

7. Inspiration

... to travel places you've never been and/or to go to your 8am class.

8. Your 9-1-1

You might find yourself at 2 a.m in a situation; broken down car or even just craving a pizza. I guarantee there will be a sister who will come to your rescue with a spare tire, or one who will order a pizza delivery to your dorm.

9. Finding yourself

It's okay to not know who you are yet. College is about not only exploring the things around you, but testing yourself and your boundaries. Being a part of an organization, especially a group of 120+ women who work hard everyday to empower themselves and those around them, might give you the encouragement that you need to break out of your shell and be the best version of yourself.

10. And finding happiness

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
