School's out, you most likely moved home, you have no friends. This is a harsh reality to some, and to others, it's a sacred time away from the constant noise at college. If you're not working during the summer, you are probably home with your mom. That woman can be just as great as your best friend, if you give her a chance. Here's why:
1. She will always be down for happy hour
She probably had a stressful day at work, and you probably had a stressful day shopping. There is so much you two can vent about.
2. She will pay.
You're still living the broke college kid lifestyle well into your thirties. Never turn down a drink, especially when it's free
3. She can be a great wing woman.
She'll have to go to the bathroom at some point. Now the cutie from across the bar can actually come over and try to get your number, but if mom doesn't approve, she will immediately start talking marriage to shoo him away.
4. She will let you in on family gossip.
Get her a little tipsy, and you will find out everything. From your cousin dating someone much older to your great uncle saying he's going for drinks after work when he's really taking acting classes. She always knows something you don't.
5. She will be real with you if you're severely messing up your life.
She's probably honest with you as it is, but she will repeat what she always says, and you will actually listen and actually try to get your life together.
6. You will be open to sharing details of your life you've kept hidden for so long.
Now's the time to tell her about the tattoo you got on spring break or who the hickey on your neck was from when she visited you at school. She was young once too.
7. You will probably tell her she needs to go out on the town with you and your friends and she will probably say yes.
Later in the night, you have created an even deeper bond than you already have. Heck, you are drinking with your mom, if that isn't deep I don't know what is. Tell her she totally needs to hit up the bars and frat houses when you get back to school, it'll be fun. Who doesn't love a cool mom?
8. You will both realize she is not just your overprotective, nagging mother but your ultimate BFF.
She will never leave you when you mess up. She will be by your side and love you no matter what. She will even love you when you have a little too much fun and make friends with the toilet bowl.
