10 reasons you need to Squat, Or in support of the Barbell Back Squat

1. It’s your DNA, man

You were meant to drop your butt to your ankles while keeping you heels flat on the grand. It’s so human. If you go to any third world country the majority of the population will exhibit this natural movement with ease.

    2. Functional hips

    If you can’t squat butt to ankles, you’re missing something called mobility, the ability to move in some respect. If you are missing mobility here, it’s serious, because you’re missing potential to do all movement better.

    3. Oh your back hurts

    It’s because you’re hip flexors look like a wad of gum right now, because you never squat. Legitimately the reason for majority of American’s back pain is sitting way too much, instead of squatting.

    4. You want to be athletic, school some kids at your sport?

    How you going to do that when you’re stride is crooked, you’re posterior chain is weak, and your shoulders/traps are super tight from never squatting?

    5. You want to look athletic, show off some skin at the beach, or just fill out some pants decently?

    To look athletic you have to act athletically, which is naturally, which is squatting. Man seem like squatting would fix a lot of problems….

    6. You want to be able to defend yourself?

    You can’t punch hard if you can’t utilize your hips, and I know I’m beating a dead horse here, but you teach them hips by, you guessed it, squatting.

    7. The barbell back squat is a continuation of the most important movement in human history besides walking/running.

    It will teach you posterior chain (calves, hamstrings, glutes, back muscles, neck muscles even) to fire like a cannon, instead of the water gun like experience your feeling right now.

    8. Adding weight makes squatting hard

    So hard in fact, you might become stronger than everyone you know by repeatedly choosing to partake in this blessing called back squatting.

    9. The added degree of the barbell will make you more proficient at unweighted squatting.

    10. Choosing to perform a difficult act on the daily will make you a mentally and physically more resilient, dare I say it, anti-fragile, person.

    It seems like a stretch but taking on the impossible throughout the week by adding just a little weight each workout will create grit in you.

    So you’re sold on squatting because it’s what humans who want to move efficiently, powerfully, and beautifully do? Maybe the barbell back squat is for you too.
