With the new semester upon us, we are all getting back in the swing of things. You’re getting back to classes, and already find yourself drowning in homework and studying. With all this, all I keep asking myself is, "is it time for my getaway to South Padre Island for spring break yet?" After the recent outlaw from Panama City Beach to not be able to have alcohol on the beach it seems that South Padre Island is everyone's spring break destination. As we all are broke college kids the thought of going on spring break seems a little pricey...but take it from someone who went last year; you should without a doubt find a way to scrape the money together and make it work, and here's why:
1. Get Away
The stress of college can really get to you, and it's nice to enjoy yourself for a week and neglect all obligations and just focus on you. Plus who doesn’t want to smell the ocean air, hear the waves crash onto the shore, and feel the rays of the sun soaking into your skin?
2. Stress Reliever
It's such an upbeat environment. Everyone is so happy to be off school for a week, out on the beach with their friends and just enjoying themselves. The uplifting morale you’ll feel is a euphoric experience in its own, this is something you don’t want to miss.
3. You Only Get Four Spring Breaks
Would going back home to work be the most responsible decision? Yeah, probably. But look at it this way, you only have four spring breaks in your college career, only four total weeks to take spontaneous trips with your best friends and be surrounded by thousands of people who are all there to have a good time. Once you graduate and go out into the “real world” spring break is a non-existent thing, so live it up while you can.
4. Memories To Last A Lifetime
The memories you will make in the short time of spring break are limitless. You will have endless stories to tell, along with numerous pictures to look back on, and when you do the rush of spring break will come flooding back into you.
5. Bonding
Your sorority or group of friends probably gathered a big group of people together to take on spring break. You may not be that close with everyone in your group, and that’s okay. How spring break brings people together is actually a little crazy. That week you will grow closer to some of the most unexpected people, and you will be more than thankful for it when you return.
6. Warm Weather
Okay so this one is self-explanatory, who wouldn’t want to ditch your UGG boots for your favorite bikini?
7. Dirt Cheap
Chances are you’ll be going in a big group and shoving, at least, four people over the maximum room limit in your hotel, all to save money. I mean where else can you stay for a week for less that $200-$300? Not many places.
8. Free Concerts
From T-Pain, Luke Bryan, David Guetta, to Chase Rice these are just a few of the crazy concerts during spring break that are literally on the beach. Who wouldn’t want to hear one of their favorite artists while partying on the beach in your bikini?
9. Road Trip
While the long 10-15 hour drives are less than desirable you’re at least getting to see a lot more of the world on your way to your destination, make up crazy games, make spontaneous stops, buy souvenirs from towns with funny names, and explore. Make the ride fun, not dreadfully long.
10. Doing Whatever You Want, Whenever You Want
Let's be real, this is probably your first vacation without your parents. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want to. Come back at whatever time you want, and sleep into whenever you want. The freedom is real, enjoy it.
All in all, spring break is a week you don’t want to miss out on. So start shaking down your piggy bank and selling your textbooks. Because spring break is not something you want to miss.
