As a transfer student from UW-Madison (think Badgers, Big 10, Wisconsin, etc.), so many people questioned why I would transfer away from one of the biggest party schools. The answer is simple; I’ll give you 10 reasons.
1. Diversity
Iowa State is known for an excellent fashion program, award-winning Journalism school, and a college of Ag that goes back to ISU’s very beginning. And to think the school is surrounded by corn fields.
2. It’s beautiful
The campus was dubbed fifth most beautiful campus in the world by buzzfeed. We get to walk around one of the prettiest campuses in the world on a daily basis!
3. The Ag School
What girl can resist a boy in cowboy boots? The College of Ag offers many perks for students looking to understand where their food comes from.
4. Tailgating
The atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon when it’s nearing game time is unbeatable. There’s something about those student lots or tailgating by the haunted forest that you love.
5. Welch Ave
For everyone who is 21 or “21,” Welch Ave. is typically your destination for the night. Whether you prefer Dollars on Wednesday, Mug Night, or both, week nights are usually pretty poppin'.
6. Greek System
If you want to be involved in Greek life, Iowa State has an incredible Greek system. With 16-plus sororities and 33-plus fraternities, the Greek community is huge. Homecoming, philanthropies, and social activities are only a sample of everything the Greek community is a part of.
7. 800 clubs, 100 majors
There’s literally something for everyone.
8. Traditions
From "campaniling" at midnight to Yell Like Hell and walking around the Zodiac sign, Iowa State has some of the coolest traditions.
9. Our basketball team
Who doesn’t love some Hilton Magic? With a basketball team like ours, it makes you proud to be a cyclone.
10. The friends you make
This is my favorite one. The friends you make at Iowa State truly make your experience incredible. I’m so lucky to call Ames, Iowa, my home, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
