Every night before I catch up on "Grey’s Anatomy," I call my mom. I never really have much to say, but I always call her knowing that the conversation will end with us laughing about something really stupid.
I trust my mom with my whole life. I tell her almost everything that happens to me, and she never judges me. If she does, she does a really good job of hiding it.
I’ve had so many friendships that have come and gone, but my mom is always going to be there for me, and so is yours. So here are 10 reasons why moms are our best friends:
1. You can always gossip to her, knowing she won’t tell anyone.
I tell my mom every piece of drama in my life. Not because she really cares if I got mad at my friend for calling my sense of humor “dry,” but because I know she won’t tell anyone. Or at least anyone that could seriously affect my social life (sorry Grandma, and my mom’s work friends.)
Telling your mom your gossip is the equivalent of sitting in front of a mirror and venting, but this way someone always agrees that So-and-So is really full of themselves.
2. She always takes care of you.
No matter what illness I have, my mom always takes care of me. There was one time that I threw up in a bunk bed and she had vomit all in her hair, and yet she still jokes about it.
She changed your diapers, she cleaned up the vomit from the bathroom, she brought you aspirin and water. She always wants what’s best for you, or at least what will end the sickness, so that she can stop hearing you complain about it.
3. She’s always a shoulder to cry on.
I don’t know how many times I call my mom hysterically crying over the dumbest things. Even though she can’t understand what you’re saying, she always manages to make you calm down, helps you through it, and makes you laugh about it later.
4. She always takes your side.
There have been many times in my life that I've been wrong, even though I don’t like to admit it. My mom tries to let me pretend that I’m not wrong, unless she’s the right one in the situation. Then I never hear the end of it. I have countlessly yelled about how a teacher was wrong, or I should have gotten the solo and she always nodded and agreed with me.
5. She pretends that you “really don’t feel well enough to go to school.”
Let’s be honest, some days you just aren’t feeling it. Especially when you had to go to school for five days out of a week with a bunch of horribly rude teenagers. Moms understand that, and pretend that your stomach ache is definitely crippling and doesn’t allow you to leave bed.
6. She can laugh anything off, if she's given time to accept what mistakes you made.
No matter what happens, moms always let things pass after time. I once put my mom seven hours out of the way on an already 14-hour trip to North Carolina because I put in the wrong address in the GPS. And by one time, I mean many times. But my mom always laughs it off after four hours of sitting in silence in the car.
7. She always sings really loud in the car with you.
Maybe this one is just me, but my mom and I love Broadway. So much that we don’t even want to hear the actor’s voices, and we completely scream the songs ourselves. I mean, granted, we sound good. But it definitely makes the road trips more fun and entertaining, especially when she doesn’t know the words to any of the songs.
8. She gave you your unbelievably good looks.
This one is just a given. Look at yourself, look at your mom. Now you know who to thank.
9. She’s your biggest supporter.
My mom has been there for me throughout everything in my life. No matter how boring, how bad, or how far, my mom has always made the effort to see me. You know it made her extremely proud if she cried during it.
10. She’ll always be there for you.
No matter what you do, your mom will always be your best friend. Value the love your mom gives you, even if you think it’s “suffocating.” You’ll never find someone else who devotes their whole life to you as much as she does!
