10 Reasons Why I Love Being A Bama Delta Gamma

1. We are anchored in friendship.

I honestly could not ask for better sisterhood. When you walk into the Delta Gamma House, you instantly feel welcomed by 419 of your amazing sisters. I love going to all of our sisterhood events, from Six Flags to Bachelor night. And I know that there will always be a DG to call at 1 a.m., whether I need a ride back from the library, need to vent about boys over FaceTime, or just want to go grab some midnight sushi.

2. Working with Service For Sight has been an amazing experience.

From playing with preschoolers at AIDB to our "Adopt a Grandparent" program, I have been able to make a positive impact in my community. I have never had a chance to work with the visually impaired before I joined Delta Gamma and DG has shown me that the philanthropy side of our sorority can be just as exciting as the sisterhood and social events.

3. Anchor Splash

If you have never been to Anchor Splash and you are a fan of dancing, swimming, fraternity boys, or want to just benefit a good cause, I would encourage you to get a ticket next year. It is a fundraising event unlike any other. More than 125 DG chapters host Anchor Splash events nationwide. Anchor Splash is a day dedicated to fun and raising awareness about visual impairments.

4. Fried Fridays

We have fried pickles.

5. I have met girls from all over the country.

Spending a whole month across the country from my sisters over winter break was one of the hardest things I've had to this year. But true friendship isn't about being inseparable, it's about being separated and nothing changes.

6. My big/little fam is #SquadGoals.

She's half my soul and half my heart. Without my DG big, I'd fall apart. I just want to take a second to thank my big for being the role model, best friend, therapist, mom, study buddy, cheerleader, partner-in-crime and lifelong sister that I need.

7. DG helps us develop lifelong skills and gives us opportunities to be leaders.

One reason I rushed DG was because of all of the leadership opportunities that we offer. Delta Gamma is the only organization that I am a part of that will allow freshman to take on director positions and leadership roles. Our sisters also understand that after these four years of fun, we will be entering the professional world and DG wants to make sure that we are prepared to take on that responsibility.

8. We encourage each other to get involved.

Our sisters are involved in a ton of clubs, student government, athletics, honors organizations, etc. So, you can feel confident joining a club that interests you on campus because you know you will get to participate in it with your sisters.

9. We have a fully stocked snack cabinet.

I know this is the second time I have mentioned food but the snack cabinet plays an important role in my life.

10. DG is my home away from home.

The beautiful DG house is more than just a place to connect with our sisters, study, sleep and watch Grey's Anatomy. The DG house stands as a reminder that we represent something bigger than ourselves. With over 230,000 members nationwide I know that no matter where I end up I will always be close to home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
