10 Reasons it's Hard Being A Funny Girl

It's not all laughs.

My whole life, I've always been told how "funny" I was. I've always been able to make just able anyone laugh with quick wit, and almost surprise people with what will come out of my mouth next. I've never complained about it, I'm not trying to brag about myself either. I'm just stating facts. However there is a lot that people don't understand why it's difficult being a funny girl.

1. You're Always Supposed to be "On."

You don't get off days, or bad days. Or even days where nothing is wrong you just don't have anything to say. People begin to expect something, every time they see you. You become a performing monkey will people poking you with sticks saying "come one, say something funny!"

2. No One Knows When You Seriously Don't Like Them.

Which can be a blessing or a curse. But since most of your friends have come to the terms that you will ruthlessly tease them, everyone else thinks that you're just joking to. The plus to this is you can say, ANYTHING you want to a sworn enemy and they will just laugh, give you that play push on the shoulder and say"oh my gosh I almost thought you were serious for a second."

3. Your Friends Feel the Need to Put Disclaimers on Activities.

Not because you're crude, well at least all the time. But, more often than not many of the funny people I have met, are slightly loud. All of your buddies will have to take you aside and say "listen this is kind of something you can't, you know, say your jokes at." Then of course you'll respond with "Okay, I'll just think them really really loud then and maybe you can still hear them! I know, I know I'll behave." And then we never do, but hey we tried.

4. You're Not the Favorite In the Family.

Sure, you tone it way, WAY down in front of grandma; sometimes though there is something that is extremely funny that happens at family get togethers and you make a small joke about it, something innocent and fun, whatever. BLANK STARES. Maybe some people in my family have never heard a joke before and I just introduced them to this new fangled idea and its manifesting in their minds.

5. Humor Becomes your Shield.

I know I started to make more and more jokes when things got difficult at home. The older I got and the more things happened, it just got worse and worse. Any uncomfortable, and inappropriate setting would make the worst of the worst come out and I can't stop spewing jokes like a faucet.

6. It's Difficult to Display All of Your Other Emotions.

Humor is your idle, you just hover there comfortable and it's nice, safe, and comfortable. When any other emotion does come along, it's almost scary. It's not something you want to deal with or even see. Even good emotions. Laughing at something when honestly you're really excited about it, someone did something really nice for you and instead of showing gratitude, you make a joke of it. It's small things like that, that takes someone to real listen to understand what a person like me is trying to say.

7. You're Never Lost for Words.

You know how most people say after an argument or a fight with someone "man I wish I would have said this!" Well, usually someone quick witted, or funny, has the opposite problem. We say things in arguments that cut DEEP. There is something about a person who makes jokes all the time, they've probably been through a lot and have hurt a lot. Because of that it is kind of easy to see other peoples hurts, and insecurities. So when we get mad, all of the things we know better not to joke about, well, that can sometimes go out the window. You may win every argument you've ever been in, but you will feel like a monster afterwards. It takes a lot of self control to not say a lot of what we could say.

8. Dating is Nearly Impossible.

As a funny girl, well, for some reason its intimidating to a lot of guys that me, being a girl could actually be funny and not to just be there to laugh at their jokes. It almost seems the more exceptional you are at life as a girl, the harder it is for boys to like you. I'm not complaining at this. Any person who is confident in themselves doesn't have to feel bad when someone else is better than them at something. But, being funny makes dating really hard.

9. You're Always Expected to Take Charge.

This is probably because of the loud thing, but answering phones, ordering the pizza, asking anyone a question about anything. From double dog dares to asking the lady at JcPenny if they have any of a shoe in your friends size in the back, more often that not your friend always turns to you and says "you ask them."

10. People Think You're Confident.

You feign confidence because you are loud, and it's true you never meet a stranger. But if you heard the inner dialogue in my head in would probably be just one, very long, terrified scream. We use our sense of humor like a boat that keeps us alive, and afloat during every conversation we have. It terrifies us not to have it because, and I can't speak for everyone I'm just generalizing. anytime we have opened up to a person with making a joke of it, we've gotten hurt.

So just remember, it is pretty true that the funniest people you meet, might actually be hurting pretty badly. It just takes someone willing to listen.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
