10 Reasons Being A Short Girl Is Better

Whether you are abnormally short, tall, red-haired, or curly-haired, it is tough to stand out in adolescence. However, growing up you realize the value in being unique, and here are ten things that every short girl comes to appreciate.

1. You never have to worry about being taller than guys.

5'10" Taylor Swift complained in "Begin Again" that "he didn't like it when I wore high heels." This is not an issue when you are shorter than most of the guys that you know. You can wear whatever shoes you want and date whomever you want without looking uneven.

2. You are easy to lift.

Obviously this is fun if you are a cheerleader, but it works out in other aspects of life. You can help change light bulbs and reach things in otherwise unreachable places. If you were short as a child, it took you many years to outgrow being carried around like a toddler. In fact, your friends can probably still give you piggyback rides.

3. You can fit into children's clothes.

This is really annoying if you are not big enough to fit into women's sizes at all, but if you are just the right size to wear children's or adult clothes, you are in great shape. This works out well for jeans and shoes that look the same in kids' sizes, but are half the price!

4. You always have enough legroom.

This is applicable to airplanes, cars, couches, and beds. It is so much more comfortable getting to sit places when your legs aren't crammed up against another seat or sleeping without your legs hanging off of your bed.

5. Your clothes take up less space.

You can go a long time without needing to do a load of laundry, and you can fit more clothing into your suitcases than your taller friends. Imagine how difficult it would be to pack if all of your pants took up more room.

6. Clothes cannot be made bigger.

It is okay if you do not quite fit into that perfect dress that you absolutely must have, because you can get it tailored. You would not have this luxury if you were too big for the article of clothing. You also do not have to worry about your t-shirts shrinking in the drier, as they are usually too big to begin with.

7. You'll always look young.

This may be infuriating when you are a teenager and your tall friends can get into R-rated movies or bars, but I promise you will appreciate this when you are older. Even by the time you are 25 you are going to love looking like a college student, and the joy just gets greater as you get older.

8. You can fit into tight spaces.

You were a hide-and-seek master as a child, and now you can hide from your ex-boyfriend who is unexpectedly in the same room as you. You can also comfortably crawl under a table to get a ball during a game of pong or push your way through a crowded room.

9. You belong in the front row everywhere.

You don't have to feel bad about pushing yourself up to the front row at a concert if you are shorter than everyone you go in front of. You are also a prime candidate for your friends' shoulders.

10. You're adorable!

Ariana Grande, Hayden Panettiere, Anna Kendrick, Natalie Portman, and Vanessa Hudgens all show that short girls are the hottest!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
