It's finally your senior year of college. The semesters of studying all night and drinking gallons of coffee have paid off. Soon you'll be living in the real world, have a career, and plenty of responsibilities besides making sure that you turned in papers and are making good grades.
You might can even picture it now. You'll have a great job, a spouse, a nice car and house, and maybe even some kids (or dogs in my case) 10 years from now. You might even know which neighborhood you want to live in and know where you're going to have a job. But for most of us, that image is in the far distance and there's long, long road between now and then.
The majority of students are still tying to decide what to eat for dinner, let alone have his or her life figured out. It's a time of uncertainly and confusion between now and the day you walk across the stage for that very expensive piece of paper called a diploma.
As stressful as that may seem already, it's only made more intense by the multitude of questions that are sure to be asked before you graduate. Sure, the people who ask those questions mean well, but it doesn't help the anxiety you feel rise in your chest when you're asked a question that you don't have a definite answer to.
Here are 10 questions that you will be asked your senior year that can help you have prepared and rehearsed answers for then next time someone asks something about your future.
1. Do you have a job yet?
2. Do you have an internship?
3. Where will you be living?
4. Are you going to grad school?
5. Are you dating someone?
6. (If so...) When will you be getting engaged?
7. (If not...) Why not?
8. Are you graduating on time?
9. Don't you know that's a hard field to go into?
10. Are you scared about being an adult?
While the variations of these questions can be very different, you're sure to be asked these plus many more questions that may make wish you could go back to being a freshman.
While the future may be frightening, there's no need to panic whenever someone asks you one of these questions. It's okay to be honest about your plans (or lack of) because right now is an exciting and life changing time of your life.
In a few short months you'll have most of those questions answered. And in a couple of years from now you'll look back and laugh about it. Those questions that are intimidating right now will all be answered in time, so there's no reason to lose sleep over it.
While you may or may not have it all figured out yet, the important thing is to enjoy your senior year and make great memories of your college experience (and you might want to start preparing answers to all of those questions now just in case.
