10 Places To Go This Summer In Minnesota

Summer is fast approaching, and it is time to start putting together that "summer bucket list." It is no fun to stay in one place all summer. Road trips are a necessity; whether you're a current resident of Minnesota or just here for the summer - here are a few places to think about going!

1. The Quarries

Looking to go for an exhilarating jump into some cold water on a hot summer day? The quarries are the perfect place to go. Whether you are a daredevil who is looking to do some flips off the tallest ledge, or you are just looking to float in a raft all day. Both options are available at this fun location in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.

2. The Chocolate Ox

A cute and cozy candy shop is just what someone needs on a sunny, July afternoon. This Nisswa, Minnesota gem has a large assortment of candy, ice-cream and fudge (not your typical Target brands either). Nisswa has much more to offer than just it's Chocolate Ox - so it will for sure be worth the trip!

3. Lake Minnetonka

Lake Minnetonka doesn't disappoint on the Fourth of July. However, there are more things to do than just party and ski on this lake. Boat cruises are offered throughout the day and/or for a sunset escape around the lake, so you can feel like a resident of this famous lake for at least the day, or night. These cruises also often provide an option for meals/drinks while aboard.

4. Chanhassen Dinner Theater

After the sun has fried your face, and all you want to do is spend a night inside rather than out at a bonfire. The Chanhassen dinner theater is a perfect venue to attend. This awesome place gives you the opportunity to enjoy some wonderful entertainment on a full stomach. But, save room for the dessert that is provided during intermission!

5. Boundary Waters

Getting sick of the same old daily routine? Looking for some adventure? The boundary waters is a perfect place to go if you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, chaotic, technology filled reality and escape to serene nature, with only the whispering of the winds (and maybe a mosquito bite or two) to bother you. The boundary waters is a bit of a drive for many people but it'll be worth the drive up to Ely, Minnesota.

6. Gooseberry Falls State Park

Not only is Duluth a gorgeous city to do touristy activities, it also has incredible state parks, including the fan-favorite, Gooseberry falls. This state park offers numerous hiking trails for some good exercise, but also some great spots for those artsy pictures for Instagram.

8. Sugar Loaf Bluff

This bluff is in the heart of Winona, MN looking over a small lake and Winona State University.
It has a great view, and offers some adventurous hiking trails on the back side of the bluff. While you're in the city you should also stop by the Acoustic Cafe for a great sandwich and coffee.

9. Walker Art Center

Did you think Walker Art Center was a typical museum? Think again! The center offers a round of mini-golf to anyone interested on an eight-hole course with an art-design centered theme. This attraction is good to mix things up from your "basic" summer festivities.

10. Hackensack, Minnesota

If you're looking for something quite the opposite of Lake Minnetonka on the Fourth of July -- Hackensack is the place to be! They have a great firework show, that is much less rowdy than ol' Minnetonka. The town is small, but offers lakes with great fishing and some tasty food at their locally owned restaurants.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
