You have to choose what is best for your education and your future.

1. Be honest with yourself.

It is okay to acknowledge that you may be unhappy at your current college or university. Do not be afraid to look into other institutions and make changes to your educational pursuits.

2. Make a pro and con list.

It is imperative to narrow down what you love about your school and what you are not crazy about! Ask yourself whether the good outweighs the bad.

3. Do your research before jumping into transferring!

Does the other institution offer your preferred major and activities that you would be interested in joining?

4. Narrow down your search.

Transferring is a lot like applying to college for the first time; you have to narrow down the schools that you are interested in attending! Take campus tours, talk to current students and ask plenty of questions.

5. It is okay to have mixed feelings about transferring.

However, you are not alone. Many college students end up transferring after their first or second year at school.

6. Do not worry about the opinion of others.

It is true that you will have family and friends sharing their opinions about you transferring from your current college or university. The opinions of your loved ones do matter but only to a point. With that being said, remember that your decision to transfer is about your education and your future.

7. It is okay to change your mind.

It is true that you will have seconds thoughts about transferring. It is also more than okay to change your mind about transferring, and to fall in love with your current school all over again.

8. Be sure to live out your final semester at your current college or university to the fullest.

Embrace all of the good things. Remember why you chose that particular institution! This positive outlook will help you make great, lasting memories.

9. Keep your focus.

It is easy to lose academic motivation during the final weeks of the semester. This fact is even more prevalent in the lives of soon-to-be transfer students! It is important to remember that a good academic standing is necessary in order to transfer.

10. Be prepared to embrace new beginnings at the school you transfer to.

It is true that transferring is similar to reliving your freshman over again. You have to start over both academically and socially. It is up to you to embrace new opportunities and to find happiness post-transfer!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
