10 Perks of Long Distance Relationships

Many people say long distance relationships always fail. Well, many long distance relationships do fail, but guess what, it doesn’t mean it's not worth a shot. I’ve seen many people settle into their relationships primarily out of convenience, but why? I mean yes, long distance relationships will always be difficult, but every relationship comes with its own unique challenges —

it's just that this kind involves a large gap in mileage. If you or anyone close to you are in a long distance relationship, some of my personal revelations and advice might help you through this crazy ride you have chosen in life.

I am here to tell you that long distance relationships are not impossible — I’m living proof itself! These types of relationships are truly a test of perseverance. I know this sounds strange, but you will soon discover this. Within this persevering, you have to always remember to be confident in your relationship because the universe would not give your relationship this test if you could not handle it. You also have to understand that distance —

although it might drive you slightly crazy — truly does make the heart grow fonder, and this will help you understand to not take people or time for granted when you are spending time with your significant other. These are a just a few of the things you will come across in a long distance relationship, but long distance relationships aren’t always all struggles or serious conversations. They are so much more than that, and I’ve narrowed down a list to 10 positive things that I have gathered in being in a long distance relationship.

1. Being forced to learn sacrifice and patience.

2. Both of you might live in two extremely different towns, which allows for double the crazy date ideas and secret spots.

3. You learn strong communication skills because you are forced to talk everything out when you are so far apart.

4. If your relationship can survive distance, it can pretty much survive anything.

5. Always having something exciting to look forward to after counting down the days and cherishing your time together that much more.

6. Traveling to places you would never have gone otherwise.

7. You learn to get a little crafty, from sending cute care packages to love letters.

8. Knowing that your relationship clearly is based on more than the physical stuff.

9. You have a lot of free time to pursue your career, passions and hobbies.

10. Most importantly, you get to be with the love of your life.

To all who are in or approaching a long distance relationship, I promise it won’t always be like this. It might not be perfect, but as long as you continue to work at it, you will find it worthwhile. So know it gets easier, and your situation will get better one day. Lastly, to all of the people who think long distance relationships are pointless, coming from someone who was always judged for my relationship, it is worth so much to me. If you are one of those people who doubts long distance relationships, I just hope you find someone one day who is worth everything to be with, whether that be two miles or 2,000 miles away.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
