It was the early 2000s. It was a time when your awkward phase was at its peak. Now, in 2016, middle schoolers are well put together and are more concerned about Kylie Jenner than the Cheetah Girls. I thought it was time to educate the tweens of today on what was cool during the years that revolved around Limited Too boot cut jeans, Photo Booth edits and Aeropostale tank tops. Here are ten trends all middle schoolers of the early 2000s were guilty of.
1. UGGs:
Why did we ever think these camel-colored boots looked great with anything and everything? Let's be honest, all they really did was make your feet smell worse than the gym locker room.
2. Silly bands:
No one knew that the lumpy green rubber band on your wrist was actually an alligator.
3. Abercrombie hoodies:
The bigger the logo, the cooler you were.
4. Posting song lyrics as your Facebook status:
The top 40 list really understood how hard it was to be 13.
5. Rubber bracelets:
It was necessary to wear them all the way up to your elbows. How else would people know you were such a social activist? Live Strong was the original, but it really should have been named Live A Lie.
6. Neon anything:
We were always prepared, just in case there was a black light.
7. Dances:
You bought a new Abercrombie t-shirt and were beyond ready to show it off. Your mom was going to pick you up at 10pm. Score!
The middle schoolers of today will never understand the struggle of being a tween in the early 2000s. Limited Too and graphic t-shirts need to make a comeback so they can truly understand what it means to be awkward.
