10 Life Lessons From 'OTH' Brooke Davis

"She was fiercely independent. Brooke Davis. Brilliant, and beautiful, and brave. In two years she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday. And I'm not sure she even knows it." - Lucas Scott

Brooke Davis, one of the main characters in the popular TV series, "One Tree Hill," started out as a snobby, spoiled teen who certainly did not have her life together. She was the type of girl to sleep around, party too much, and not care about the 'nerdy' people around her. Basically she was a typical high school cheerleader - popular, perfect, and dealing with drama at home. Most people would characterize young B. Davis as a brat, but, as the show goes on it's clear that Brooke is actually an amazing person who has a lot of lessons to teach the world.

1. Being a girl can be tough.

Even as a high school senior, Brooke Davis could see that being a girl can be tough and that something needs to change.

2. People grow up.

"You know when I was a freshman I wasn't a very good person, I mean sure I was popular and dated seniors...but as a person I was pretty lost. And over the last four years I've been forced to grow up. I stopped letting boys define me and I started believing in myself and in my potential and I ran for student counsel president and I designed a clothing line and somewhere along the way, the lost little party girl became the girl on the wall of honor. I know what I did was wrong Mr.Turner I know, but the girl I was when I came to this school, I'm not so sure she would've. And isn't that the point of high school? I mean isn't that what you've been trying to teach us for the last four years?"

3. People will label you.

No matter what you do, people will judge you and label you a specific way, but it's up to you to redefine those labels and show people who you really are.

4. You're a warrior. You're tougher than anything it throws your way.

Life can be hard sometimes, but you are so much stronger than you know and you will survive.

5. Never apologize for being yourself.

You should never be sorry for who you are, embrace it.

6. Never give up on your friends.

Peyton screwed Brooke over so many times, but at the end of the day, they were still best friends because sometimes you just have to forgive people. Brooke showed that you always have to be there for your friends, even if they might not appear to be there for you.

7. Sometimes you just have to accept your mistakes and use them to change for the better.

8. Being skinny isn't everything. Health matters.

Being a successful clothes designer Brooke could have easily used models who had eating disorders so that they could be 'perfect', but she refused. She noticed that sizes do not define you and that health matters more that anyone's imagine of 'perfect'.

9. It's okay to not always be okay.

Brooke loves to come off as an independent girl with no emotions who doesn't need anyone, but as she grows up she learns that sometimes it's okay to break down.

10. Sometimes you just need to believe in yourself, even if no one else does.

Even when her business went under and her mother was no help, Brooke never gave up, she learned to believe in herself no matter what, which is the best lesson of all.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
