10 Low Key Resolutions You Can Actually Keep

If your New Year’s Resolution is to work out more or eat healthier, please stop lying to yourself. You’re really only going to work out more mid-semester when you can't walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like a whale without a lung. And really, who among us that isn’t already eating healthy wants to give up our processed microwave mac and cheese? Not me, that’s for sure.

But there are things we can all change to make ourselves a little happier on a daily basis. Little resolutions can go a long way, especially when you make them habits and start to do them without thinking.

Resolution 1: Give yourself the cool dude thumbs up in the mirror every morning.

Resolution 2: Once a month, text a friend you haven’t talked to in a while and ask them how everything is going.

Resolution 3: Once a month, text a friend you text regularly a funny gif, something so funny they do a spit take.

Resolution 4: Treat yo' self. Start a new show. Watch Westworld or Seinfeld or all six seasons plus the one good movie of Sex and the City.

Resolution 5: Take pictures of everything. Post Instagrams of everything. Document what's important to you while still staying present in every moment.

Resolution 6: Buy a little notebook and write down one good thing that happened to you every day.

Resolution 7: Write yourself little love notes at the beginning of every month, and place them in your notebooks and textbooks so you get a pleasant surprise whenever you find them.

Resolution 8: Once a month, treat yourself to something that makes you happy. Be it a walk, a pair of shoes, a peach smoothie from Kaldi’s.

Resolution 9: Take a couple naps a week if you don’t already. Find the time to just lie down and breathe. You deserve it.

Resolution 10: Go out to dinner with your friends once a month. Save up some money so that one day each month, you all get together and explore your college town/city/village. Catch up on things you don't say in day to day chatter, and try out as many new restaurants as you can.

Most importantly, set resolutions that will make you happy this year. Sure: you may not lose 30 pounds or learn to love wheat berry quinoa, but you may laugh a little bit more than you did in 2016.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
